A little disappointed. We do not speak Italian and it was not possible to make ourselves clear in any other language to the waiter what led to frustration in the kitchen. The waiter told us not to order from both kitchen and pizzeria while minutes later other tables were served both (it was not busy in the restaurant at all). On the bill we found the cost of an entire dish for only a bit of cooked pasta.
This is sad of course because the food was great, a good review includes both good food and good service.

Service in Osteria Michel is very friendly and prompt but rather prone to errors.
The bruschetta, beef carpaccio and salmon carpaccio starters were excellent, fine and we’ll seasoned. The aperitif, Hugo and Aperol were also well mixed and generous.
However the main courses were a disappointment, two beef dishes were rather overcooked and under seasoned. the expected simple grilled vegetables ended up being a confused mix of charred courgette, roughly cut tomatoes and rocket. The size of the dishes was generous and perhaps an effort to compensate but this missed the point of what should have been simple Italian dishes. Two pasta dishes were also disappointing and carried far too much salt.
This could be a great restaurant if they took the adage less is more to heart, simpler dishes well executed and smaller portions.

The pizza is phenomenal, you can see the pizza being baked which is also a very fun aspect of getting dinner here! Hearing some of the waiters/waitresses speak Italian adds to the whole experience. Definitely recommend coming here for some REAL Italian food

My experience in this restaurant has not been good at all. They placed us in the back side where they have the oven. One of the waitress kept on speaking only Italian to us even it was pretty clear that we couldn't understand her. The food was very normal. It doesn't cost the price they charge for it, it is very expensive for that quality. The man at the oven was wearing his mask with his mouth and nose uncovered, the same as another of the chefs who appeared from time to time. After finishing we were waiting for the bill for a long time. Clearly they forgot we were at the back side and we had to go and ask for the bill. When they finally brought it, they offered a limonccelo, which was hot.
I'm pretty sure I won't go back there and I honestly don't recommend this restaurant. It is very expensive for what you pay.

I wish I could have given it a better rating...but the good (several different dishes) was just not what you expect an Osteria to serve - very bland, not cooked to “al dente” . Very slow service and to top it all : the bill was horribly high for what we could eat. One of the kids got a pizza from next door (5 minutes 😄) and a nice part of Michele was that they didn’t even make a remark on that, even if it was quite impolite on our side. But when you are celebrating Father’s day you can’t let them down, right ? The owner / manager was not angry when we complained a bit and offered us the coffee, I think he realised that opening up just after the lifting of the Covid19 lockdown things were not yet running smoothly enough. A missed opportunity...

we are very sorry to hear that you were this disappointed. We actually do not believe that we had made a mistake; we believed you did not like your truffle dishes; which basically had truffle in them. As we are lovers of small children we just could not refuse your wish to ask for a pizza nextdoors neither the fact that you had to take a gelato also from our other neighbour. We truly tried our best to please you but anything we did; wasn't just good enough for your couple; which was quite frustrating for me and my team. So we let it be and offered a drink in the end. We just did not want to argue, with your taste buds. Actually we are not experiencing any errors after the lifting, on the contrary. We are a true osteria; and have been accepting Italian ministers from Venice and Rome and have been recognised as such. We do hope you liked your pizza and your ice cream. We also hope you liked our coffee on the house. Once again, we apologise for your bad experience. We have learned and are trying to become a better restaurant because of it.

Normally I never write negative reviews about restaurants but this time, I feel that I must report about the experience I just had at this restaurant. When entering the restaurant we were informed that we could not order pizza's. We were very disappointed because this restaurant is known for its pizzas. In order not to spoil the evening, we ordered pasta's and fish dishes from the menu. We had to wait one hour (!) before receiving our dishes. In that time we were not offered bread nor appetizers. Do you know an Italian restaurant where they do not serve bread nor grissini at the table? I do not. After a while I asked for a glass of wine but never received it. When the dishes were finally served, I asked for cheese (parmiggiano) to top my pasta, again my demand was ignored. When we looked around us we noticed several customers being served with pizza's. When we asked the servant about an explanation for this, we heard a very confused story about a special menu that should have been ordered.... We never got any apology nor for the misunderstanding about the menu, nor for the delay , nor for the ignorance of our demands. This is defenitely the last time I ever visit this place.

The meat on the starter was ice cold had to wait for it to warm up. The menu stated Focaccia base which it was not, did not taste bad but seemed to be a pizza base.
The main was made up of four elements tasteless tomato's, mixed salad leaves, olive oil and Milanese Veal. My date had Sea Bass with the same sides. Both the main features were good however the other ingredients were unpleasant. The side dish of spaghetti with butter was bland, had to be asked for and was no the pasta in tomato sauce that had been requested.
The coffee and tiramisu were both very good.
We spoke to the waiter about the lack of flavor with the Tomato's and the salad he explained they had been unable to source balsamico.

Above prices that were pretty expensive the food was not exceptional at all. Even the pizza lacks some taste. I don't understand why they are ranked 22nd in Leuven. Maybe we had some bad luck? I ordered a dish of spaghetti with shells and black truffle, I got the pasta which was really al dente, saw no shells but coquilles Saint Jacques cutt in smaller slices, and after complaining the waiter admitted they forgot to add the truffle oil into the dish... They promised to discount the dish of the bill. We got a small discount. Dissapointing experience.

A busy night in Leuven. I was wandering in the streets of Leuven, looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner. The terrace of Osteria Michele looked tempting, and one table on the terrace just became available.
After I received the menu, it took 35 (thirty five) minutes before the waiter took the order. The chef came to check in on me because he noticed that I was waiting too long. The waiters did not speak flemish, only English and were not organized. Other tables on the terrace were also not serviced as expected.
The salad served with the main dish was not fresh and the meat was tough. It might be a one-time situation but I will never go back to this restaurant.

Appetiser bruschetta was nothing like a real bruschetta. With the main menu we got parmigiano that was green rotten, fortunately the dish was replaced.
Very expensive for a very very medium Italian. Sorry to have chosen this place for dinner with my sister and her husband and son, coming back from California for the first time in 2 covid years. Never again

Servers were nice and pleasant but poorly trained. Lots of movement going on with servers but not really doing anything, our server did not take away our appetizer plates or wine glasses (we ordered no wine). I had to ask
My husband spaghetti carbonara was not even àl dente, it just wasn’t cooked enough. And my swordfish pasta, what was that ? . Both overpriced for what it was worth. Never again and would not recommend it

Made a reservation with social deal and they sent us away, even when social deal called them and confirmed the reservation they just wouldn't serve us the food we already paid for. We lost our money and were starving because this whole process took over an hour.
Would never recommend such dishonest place.
PS: the place wasn't even close to busy

Never again! There was a 10 minute difference between my friend's and my starter. When asked if I could get seafood pasta without calamari, the answer was no due to crowds (we understand this, but the question is whether they make it fresh as stated on the menu). Then we waited 2 hours (!) for a main course. that just didn't happen. Dry bread was reserved. The waiter had also forgotten my drink, after 20 minutes of waiting I spoke to him about it and he stormed in without saying anything to then bring the coke. In the meantime we saw several people who arrived much later than us and who had already finished. When we asked, it turned out that the chef (who had already been sitting outside for fifteen minutes) had forgotten us. The excuse: "Sorry, it's not my fault but the chef's. He's on his own today." Strange because two waiters passed us a lot. When we asked for the bill (and therefore went home hungry because we would have to wait a long time since the restaurant was full in the meantime) we were allowed to pay the full price (55 EUR) for drinks and a starter. At least expect a discount on 1 drink or something. Very poor service with little responsibility: "if it depended on me, your evening here would be free." It doesn't matter to us at half past ten in the evening if we have been there since 7 pm without a main course and not even a discount.

So many things wrong with this place and nobody even the slightest bit bothered. Sometime after serving drinks someone finally came to take the food order. Only then were we informed that not only there were no pizzas but also no meat as they had not ordered enough. So pasta was the only option remaining. Out of the 7 dishes, two did not match the description and two others were quite tasteless. Everything is totally overpriced and service was so poor. So many better places to go than this one.

Wow. Really no words for the amazing pizza gourmet (osteria Michele) which had a lovely blend of fresh and excellent ingredients. The ravioli alla norma taste like the ones the Italian grandmothers make for Sunday lunch.
A very vast menu and this also makes it veeery difficult to choose. Great variety of Italian wines.
Lovely, cozy and relaxing environment.
Friendly staff coming from different countries with which you can have a nice chat and enjoy your evening.
See you next time, we will definitely come back!
