Dropped in on Saturday evening, menu offered in English. Regional dishes; we were directed to specials but those we chose were on usual menu and waiter ordered these for us as better value. As I was undecided the chicken vol a vent was suggested, don’t...think 1970’s finger food, this was a delicious fresh puff pastry case, full half breast of chicken in a delightful sauce with side salad. So very filling, and very recommended. House red equally delicious. No room for pudding.More

The staff, the food, the drinks, the environment, the cost - everything was excellent. The staff was a stand out!

This restaurant serves food all day. It has the typical Belgian classics (beef stew, witlof etc.) as well as a good selection of pastas and salads. They also have suggestions that change with the season. In winter I love their witlof in the oven, in...summer I go here for mussels. But on any given day I can come in and just have the soup of the day or a simple pasta. Food is good, prices are decent, service is friendly.More

La Vignette is a fairly basic place to eat but it has a lot going for it and with the competition from all the places on the square it has to deliver to gain repeat business. The food comes in huge portions and we found...that one course was quite sufficient. It's well used by locals (always a good sign) and people using the station over the road. The wine selection is very limited but there is, of course, a good range of excellent beer. We stuck with the Belgium classics from the menu and were not disappointed. andMore

We went to the movies and need a place we good have some warm food, but we did not have the time to spend 1 or 2 hrs in a restaurant, so we chose La Vignette. Waiters were very friendly. Atmosphere was very nice. Interior...too, very cosy. The food was OK, as one can expect from the place. We will come back so have a fast bite.More

Good and fast lunch close to the train station, the place has a nice terrace in front where you can enjoy food and drinks. Service was efficient and friendly. The Burrito comes with a bit of a strange combination: Belgian fires... :) . The daily...dish was linguine with salmon and it was good.More

Had a business dinner at la Vignette and I must say it surprised me with the quality presented. We were 7 and were served at the same time with hit food. This is rule #1 and they nailed it. Then the quality was also noticeable...so all in all a good choice. Maybe the decoration could be a bit nicer but that is just my taste.More

The terrace in the square is a nice place to take in the view of the old station building, the war memorial and the other hotels and bars around the square. Service was friendly and good and there was a menu in English, which is...a bonus as my Dutch is pretty non existent. There was a good range of dishes from traditional Flemish through to burgers, a choice of beers including abbey beers and the locally produced Stella Artois. Main courses 12 - 15 euros.More

A group of colleagues and I were staying nearby the Train Station and wanted to find something not far so we ventured into the square opposite the station to find a restaurant. We decided to try La Vignette as there was a decent choice of...outdoor seating and the restaurant had quite a few diners. Some restaurants were fairly empty so we decided against these. La Vignette had an English menu which was helpful as our party was of mixed nationalities with English being the chosen spoken language between us. Some chose Steak Tartar and some Chicken Vol-au-Vent washed down with a fabulous Belgian beer. I ordered the Chicken Vol-au-Vent with a side of mushrooms and the portion size of the main was really decent, great for those with larger appetites and came with a choice of French fries, mash potato or potato croquettes along with a side salad. I have to say that it was delicious and reasonable; a main, a side and a beer was 25EUR. I would eat here again without hesitation.More

Brasserie La Vignette is very conveniently located on the square in front of Leuven’s railway station (called “Martelarenplein” in Dutch). There is a large outdoor seating area offering a view on the renovated 19th century station building and the oversized phallic war memorial in front...of it. The interior is not very appealing; in the evening, the lighting is somewhat glaring. I had a quick dinner here on a weekday and was surprised to find the place almost full at 7.30 p.m. It was also unpleasantly loud. La Vignette is one of those places where you can order almost anything from tapas and light snacks (including different types of grilled sandwiches, croquettes and salads) to pasta dishes, hamburgers, Belgian classics (meatballs, beef stew, ham and endive gratin, “filet americain” (minced raw beef), mashed potatoes with vegetables (“stoemp”) and sausage, “vol-au-vent (creamy chicken, meatballs and mushroom casserole), and several beef, chicken, lamb or fish mains. There also is a children’s menu. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and stir-fried vegetables. The salmon was a good portion and the vegetables were nicely crunchy. I didn’t care for the mash though. Service at La Vignette is very swift. There are several waiters, one of them was even pacing up and down between the tables in a rather odd fashion. Prices at La Vignette appeared somewhat above average for Leuven. The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Closed on Sunday.More
