We chose this place partly based on the good reviews on Google and we were not disappointed. Nice cosy atmosphere and a friendly service are accompanied by very good food. Tasty, well presented, good quality. Soft jazzy music with in the background makes the experience complete. Recommended for couples or small groups of friends.

A charming, unpretentious restaurant, with fine food at reasonable prices. A small, but immaculately thought out menu to please all tastes, from vegetarians to carnivores. De Warempel has a simple, pleasing decor, and a very friendly and natural atmosphere. Our waitress was charming, knowledgeable, and highly witty - living proof that some Belgians do have a good sense of humour. There were three of us, and one had vegetarian, one had a curried chicken stew and I had the local speciality beef stewed in dark beer. For an appetizer, we shared a portion of small cheese croquettes, and we finished by sharing the home-made cheesecake. We also had a bottle of the house Spanish red wine. Everything was excellent. The croquettes were as light as a feather and delicious. The vegetarian mezze of salads, grains and cooked vegetables was attractively presented with each element perfectly prepared. The curried chicken breast was ever-so-slightly overdone, but the sauce was so tasty, it didn't matter. My beef stew, accompanied by typically perfect Belgian chips and a generous beautifully fresh salad, was dark, rich and packed with beery flavour. The beef pieces were tender and succulent. All the portions were large, and I think when we go there again (which we will whenever we are in Ghent) we might share a main course. The cheesecake was simply perfect; light, creamy and unctuous. We left the restaurant feeling replete, happy and soothed - a near perfect dining experience and at about two thirds the the price of anywhere else in Ghent of similar quality. A fabulous evening!

Very good menu of vegetarian, fish or meat, with some regional specialities. Service was excellent, food very tasty (try the tapenade for a starter -its almost a delicious meal in itself). It's also just off the main tourist are, so accessible but also relaxing.

This restaurant is listed as Vegetarian on a well-known map app. So we booked, assuming we could get a vegan meal here too (based on older reviews/listings). However, when we arrived, we discovered it's now a completely omnivorous restaurant with a couple of veggie options. So it was very disappointing as we'd rather give our money to places that are more on the veggie spectrum. However, the maitresse d' kindly offered to make something vegan as there was nothing on the menu. The atmosphere is nice and cosy - the perfect place to be on a cold, wet November evening. It seemed to be full of happy groups of friends and families. The food was ok but a bit hearty and old school. It was more about large portions than exquisite flavours. A bit like Cranks for those who remember those days. I did suggest they change their listing on the app but nothing has happened yet. Lovely if you know what to expect, I'm sure.

I had the Vislasagne to go and it was spoiled. It was with spinach, salmon, white fish, celery, tomato and cheese. Every bit of it tasted like garbage on a summer day when food starts to rotten. I paid 24,50 euros, so it was an expensive experience for garbage food.

Great food-not touristy. We were looking for affordable healthy food and found it in this quiet restaurant close to the action yet feeling far away in Ghent. I had the salad , soup , bread combo and my husband had the veggie chili,. Yummy chocolate mousse and mint tea and decaf coffee finished the meal. This is a must!

After some months I was back in Ghent and of course I wanted to revisit de Warempel. The first day I took the vegetarian dish of the day with a pumpkintart filled with "warmoes" (a spinach like vegetable). A nice balance between raw, cooked and steamed vegetables and a sauce that gave it the finishing touch. The next day I was back there for lunch and than I ordered their "waterzoi of fish".... Waw, what an experience! Everything is so tasteful and this without any artificial "food/taste improver". Makes me look forward to a next visit to this wonderful town!

De Warempel is a predominately vegetarian restaurant - it's menu is relatively condensed. The starter is a soup of the day and then you have a choice of three mains, one of which was fish, and three desserts. The food cost between €15-17 for a main and €4.50 for a dessert. This is excellent value considering the quality of the meal and the more than ample portion size. The restaurant seems to be frequented by predominately locals, and as such the menu is all in Flemish, but a quick chat with the waitress or, for the more reserved, check of Google will quickly have you underway. Beer selection was reasonable - with two organic beers that I hadn't come across else were. It's worth pointing out that the opening times are a little unusual: it is open every weekday between 11.45 and 14.00, and Friday evenings 18.00 to 21.00. If you don't eat meat and you've been struggling to find a restaurant that caters specifically to your needs, De Warempel could well be the answer.

This place exists for more than 15 years - in the beginning one had the choice between a vegetarian plate and one with fish. Since most of the available fish is elevated under uncertain conditions, they dropped that option and now their cuisine is pure vegetarian. I was here 3 times this week and 3 times I was surprised by the freshness of the products, the delicious taste, the excellent and very friendly service! If there is one thing that I regret is that, if I take a soup as a starter, the main course will be too much.... so I would prefer a smaller plate as a main course.... Price wise it is very fine.... 4 euro for a soup, 15 euro for the plate of the day, same amount for an excellent vegetarian lasagne (accompanied by a fine salad with some bread and butter). I'm a customer for many years, whenever I'm in Ghent I just have to go their and I invite my friends to that place as well..... and all of them were pleased with this choice!

Great location - nice - perfect service in a friendly atmosphere and a very Belgian atmosphere, Ghent - we chose various dishes (carbonnades prepared with Belgian trappist - Thai curry with fish - vegetarian lasagne etc...) Tip: book in advance! - Reasonable prices.

Delicious food, stew with fries and homemade vegetables. It looks like a vegetarian restaurant from the outside, but they have both meat, fish and vegetarian. Small-scale and quietly located near the center. Super friendly service, highly recommended.
