Felt for a proper steak and after circulating a short while in Gent old town, we found a gem. Surtoe. Enjoyed a perfectly prepared Bistecca Fiorentina with a bottle of Piemontes. Doppio and Grappa. Elegantly cosy restaurant. Very attending crew. Highly recommending for beef lovers.

What a meal! One we will remember for a very long time. We were looking for somewhere for a light lunch having left Brugge and travelling to Rotterdam for our ferry. Instead we enjoyed the most magnificent meal - I don't think we will want...beef again for along time after this feast. The locals seemed to be eating here which is always a good sign. The service was helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.More

Came across this by accident. Menu short but very very fresh. Food was excellent. Simple to allow the flavours to shine. Service efficient and warm. Wine options excellent. Very good value for location and quality. Highly recommended.

I went to Surtoe with my family, 4 adults and our 2 year old kid. When we sat down, table clothes had big brown stains on them, so did the chair cloths. My flatware was so dirty I don't think it was washed at all...after it was used. We've decided we can't eat at such a dirty place and we politely thanked the waitress and said we'll eat somewhere else without complaining. She was so rude and furios, yelled us to go away and don't come back, etc. So I recommend you to stay away from this place. There are so many other nice restaurants in Ghent.More

Excellent cocquilles st jacques; a really well cooked steak of a first class cut. Friendly, intimate setting, and a good choice of wine. Strongly recommended.

We had the fixed menu and recommended wine. Langoustine and creme brulee lovely. Osso buco tasty but could have been slightly softer. Wines good, service friendly and just attentive enough. Would definitely come back. Thanks

Very chocked by the service provided. Very unwelcoming and rude waitress. Food is neither good or bad, and decor is useless. Wouldn't recommend unless you really can't find anything else but I doubt it! Ghent is full of charming little restaurants!More

We have been here and enjoyed the big t bone steak and a bottle of wine. Steak was very good, service very good, espresso could be better. A very good level of value for money.

Initial impression was not good. For some odd reason, guess seeing kids, they said as we entered that they did not have pastas or salads on the menu. Not very welcoming. Once we passed that barrier and put our order through, they were more friendly....Food was excellent. Service was good, but think a bit stressed. White house wine was excellent. Not a children friendly place. In general, we thought Ghent was not very hospitable, unlike most places in Belgium. Still, a beautiful city not to be missed!!!More
