This family-run restaurant is small and cozy with about 12 tables. I was glad to get a same-day reservation because it was quite crowded in town. It was nice to be away from the constant din of larger restaurants. They have a la carte items...and three fixed price menus. I got menu two which included lobster bisque, a steak with sauce, fries and salad, and dessert of chocolate mousse. My husband had menu three which included cheese croquettes (very yummy), steak with fries and salad, a glass of wine and a coffee. The hard baguette was home made, light and crunchy. They also had an amuse bouche of deer liver pâté. I would say the lobster bisque is quite different from what we are used to in the US. Not being critical, but I prefer the US version. The steak filets were cooked perfectly but as I was quickly reminded, steak in Europe is much tougher than that in the US. The Ber aisle sauce was a nice touch. The chocolate mousse was wonderful and rich enough that it was perfect when split with my husband. I would certainly recommend them but if I came back, I think I would get something other than the steak.More

Hey, this looks like a nice restaurant, my date said. Yes it does, I replied. Keep it in mind, so we know where to go when you've seen them all. (I have some experience in shopping with women: very often you end up where you...started.) She smiled and we decided to not look any further and entered Aroma. The restaurant is cosy and inviting, classy but not snobby. Waitress/co-owner Katleen makes you feel at home right away. As if you were invited to her home for dinner. It feels as if you are the only guest. Very professional! Her hubby Andy is the cook, and he is just as talented. Our starters (prawn croquets and lobster consommé) made us wanting more. Much more. Timing was perfect for our main course. And every time Katleen was there to refill our glasses and to see if we were still happy. Of course we were! All perfect then? I'd say so! Nothing to complain? Well, I am Dutch, and we're famous for rude behaviour and complaints. Complaining about the wheather most of the time, but still. I would have liked some cooked vegetables. The salad is very good, very tasty dressing, but you know men. If you are a couple, or with four, this is a very nice restaurant. Good cook, nice ambiance, excellent service. Definitely worth the try.More

We chose this place because it wasn't on the main square and we were hoping that this might mean we enjoyed a better service but unfortunately we were wrong. Apart from the waitress refusing to take our drinks order until we were ready to order...our meals (what is that about?!) There was nothing really wrong with the service but it wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. The food was ok. Again, nothing wrong with it but it was just.... Ok. All in all its a very average place and I wouldn't bother returning. I'm sure there are far better options in Ghent.More

What a lovely little restaurant. Family run affair with the lady at front of house being charming. One of our party was coeliac and she could not have been more helpful. Predominantly red meat on the menu but food was excellent. House red went down...very well. Lovely cosy decor. Thank you and well done. Would return and would recommendMore

After exploring the city centre we searched TA for restaurants in the area and found this gem. We were lucky to be seated right away (four people) as others were turned away after us. The woman running the floor was great - you can tell...she is old school and cares about the restaurant. The food was fantastic - tender steak cooked to perfection and beef stew that was flavoursome. Don’t hesitate and get to Aroma.More

Very lovely traditional style restaurant. The shrimp salad was fantastic and the coffee better than the specialty coffee roaster a few doors down that was meant to be the best coffee in town. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The lady that served us was really rude, she kept making rude sarcastic remarks and insulted us, even though the only thing we did was charge our phone without “permission”. She wouldn’t respond when we called for her etc etc. we were not pleased.

We were staying in an apartment above a chocolate shop in Donkersteeg and opposite was "Argenvino" a "Steak Restaurant", we thought we'd eat there, Friday night no tables. What a piece of luck!! Just done the alley was "Aroma" what a gem. The food was fantastic...and staff extremely friendly. There were five of us three had steaks (fillet mignon) with a choiceof sauces, one had a gargantuan mixed grill and the last the famous Belgian Beef Stew. Everything was perfect from the cooking of the steaks, the large bowls of "Frites", the accompanying salads. A truly magnificent meal.More

It is highly recommended to reserve your table, which we did, even though is calmer at Sunday noon. We received a small wild game pie during the aperitief. The menu card has many classical options including filet pur. We had chosen the filet pur with...a sauce. All well served with a prepared salad and hand cut fries. The selection of beers and wine is restricted but offers sufficient choice for the meal. I had chosen for the local Gruut Amber beer. Staff is very friendly and I would highly recommend this address if you are looking for high quality food.More

We didn't book in advance and were lucky to get a table. If you don't want to be disappointed you probably better make a reservation. They have a limited number of tables. Hope this helps.
