Went on a Monday evening. We were greeted with “do you have a reservation?”. We said no. The place was deserted, but despite this we were not shown to one of the many empty tables in the beautiful main dining area; instead we were deposited...in the less comfortable window area, no doubt to entice others in. When we left two hours later the place was still deserted, so we could easily have been offered one of the many tables in the main area. We were not given any choice.
Our starter of foie gras was very good, with nice warm sourdough bread and tasty salad. But after that things went downhill.
We had placed our order, in native French, with a personable young waiter. We had specifically asked for two steaks with two different sauces to be served separately in two pots. So inevitably two steaks arrived with the same sauce already poured over them.
The French fries were undercooked and not hot. Poor quality.
My roasted vegetables were similarly undercooked; the Jerusalem artichokes were almost raw.
My partner’s caramelised chicon were not caramelised at all, and also undercooked.
So we pointed all this out to the senior waiter, since the two younger ones who had served us were now outside (in full view) taking a cigarette break. He understood our concerns and brought hot, properly cooked fries, recooked the chicon and brought the ordered second sauce.
The quality of the steaks was not particularly good. They were advertised as Scottish Angus. As a Scot, I know good Angus beef when I see it, but this was too fatty and thinly cut for my taste. My partner agreed.
I was offered a free coffee by way of recompense for a disappointing meal, which came to €127 for one starter and two mains. This gesture, too, was disappointing.
As residents of Brussels we cannot therefore recommend Restaurant Vincent and will not be returning.More
