I came with some friends to the Monk’s terrace and I am completely sure we are not coming back. The waiter was so rude that I could even say he was showing some kind of aggressiveness towards the clients. Having a beer is meant to...be a moment to relax and chill out with friends, not to be in tension because of the waiter’s moodMore
The Monk with its long benches, mirrors and wooden panelling contrasts with its modern shiny taps and marble bartop. Still it all works. Service is unusually from the bar and many beers on tap allow you to savour different beers. Enjoy !
My friends and I visit the place last night, the atmosphere was amazing. Music was playing in the back and we could discuss and laugh. Prices are VERY affordable as you can get a Belgium beer for 3€. But the best thing of the night...was SAM!! He helped us choose our beers, based on our favourite flavours. He was funny and the most important?! He speaks ENGLISH, something rare in Brussels
VERY WELL DONE SAM YOU MADE OUR NIGHT :)More
This is such a cool, cosy little place! We came here after visiting the nearby Christmas markets, and were happy to take shelter in the warmth with a beer. Plenty of Belgian beers to choose from. Apparently the spaghetti bolognese is amazing, though I didnt...try it as I can make my own.More
Recommended by my Airbnb host, beside an excellent bakery that I visited (“Charli”, see other posts) I found Bar Monk.
I love bars like this, just off the main drag, places that mainly locals use, and I loved my couple of midday beers here.
Friendly...and laid back atmosphere, good beer options (Westvleteren 12, for example) multi-lingual staff but mainly used by locals on my visit.
Definitely on my list of bars to re-visit.More
Me and my 7 friends from Norwegian beer club The Thirsty Camels were to conclude our yearly Belgian tour Monday morning, and as usual we had a couple of places to visit before leaving for the airport, De Monk is nor far from Grand Place's...west side, down a couple of quarters.
A nice "brown" place with old stylish furniture, and lots of good beers. Actualley also a popular lunch cafe as people peeped in as clock was striking 12 while we were enjoying our beers.
I cannot say how the food is at the place but really recommended for a beer or two.More
