A real treat in the midst of Bruxelles just outside the touristic area. A bar with both a beautiful and historic interior. The bar food is great and the choice you have in beers extended! Also they speak multiple languages. Speaking French, Dutch and English...makes it a rare place in Bruxelles.More

One of my favourite districts in Brussels is the Sainte Catherine District ,an eclectic area of the city with a vibrant nightlife scene ,one of my favourite bars in this area is De Monk. This is a great bar ,always enjoyed visiting here ,the interior...is cool ,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, great decor and furnishings and lots of seating options both inside and outside looking out onto the streets that make up this district. We were here on a Tuesday night, this bar was heaving but bar staff were on top form, service very quick ,we ordered some beers ( Cristal beer ) and these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling,we very luckily managed to grab a table were we soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular bar. A big fan of this beer ,not as prevalent as Jupiler or Maes beer throughout the city but it's a light, hoppy and very drinkable beer that when served iced cold as in this bar is such a refreshing beer ,it was just so good being in such a busy bar enjoying an iced cold beer. We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every previous visit to De Monk we had a wonderful time. De Monk is easy to locate along Rue Sainte Catherine,a street and area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants. Opening hours are; Monday to Saturday,11.30am till 1am. Sunday,1pm till 1am. A wonderful locals bar, well worth seeking out if you're in the area of Sainte Catherine District.More

Monk on Rue Sainte-Catherine is a brilliant café in the Sainte-Catherine district where there are many pubs/bars and restaurants which is housed in one of Brussels privately owned oldest buildings that dates from the late 16th century. The interior to this brilliant café dates from...the 1920s and has a multi-roomed art-déco interior with many interesting feature's and superb seating options throughout the bar interior. Always busy with a mixed crowd of old and young and with a superb well thought beer list it's the ideal café to relax with a couple of beers from there extensive beer list. We have visited this superb café numerous times over the years as there beer range is superb. When we visited here fairly late this café was booming and it took us a while to get served. When here we had an excellent Belgium beer which where superb and well priced considering where we were. This is an excellent café that is worth a visit and is very easy to find from Bourse bus or tram stop it's a minutes walk.(This is my first review of Monk). Opening Hours. Monday-Saturday-11.30-01.00. Sunday-13.00-01.00. Public Transport. Bus Stop. Bourse bus stop. Tram Stop. Bourse tram stop.More

Love the interior. Nice atmosphere. Keep in mind: it’s spaghetti à la belge. Don’t come here with Italians, they won’t approve.

I came with some friends to the Monk’s terrace and I am completely sure we are not coming back. The waiter was so rude that I could even say he was showing some kind of aggressiveness towards the clients. Having a beer is meant to...be a moment to relax and chill out with friends, not to be in tension because of the waiter’s moodMore

This bar is considered to be very flemish. I like it a lot. A brown cafe. Many beers and -rare in cafes - drinkable wine

The Monk with its long benches, mirrors and wooden panelling contrasts with its modern shiny taps and marble bartop. Still it all works. Service is unusually from the bar and many beers on tap allow you to savour different beers. Enjoy !

My friends and I visit the place last night, the atmosphere was amazing. Music was playing in the back and we could discuss and laugh. Prices are VERY affordable as you can get a Belgium beer for 3€. But the best thing of the night...was SAM!! He helped us choose our beers, based on our favourite flavours. He was funny and the most important?! He speaks ENGLISH, something rare in Brussels VERY WELL DONE SAM YOU MADE OUR NIGHT :)More

This is such a cool, cosy little place! We came here after visiting the nearby Christmas markets, and were happy to take shelter in the warmth with a beer. Plenty of Belgian beers to choose from. Apparently the spaghetti bolognese is amazing, though I didnt...try it as I can make my own.More

A very relaxed vibe that doesn't seem to fill up with tourists. If you're interested in Belgian beer then the beer list is well worth your time.

Recommended by my Airbnb host, beside an excellent bakery that I visited (“Charli”, see other posts) I found Bar Monk. I love bars like this, just off the main drag, places that mainly locals use, and I loved my couple of midday beers here. Friendly...and laid back atmosphere, good beer options (Westvleteren 12, for example) multi-lingual staff but mainly used by locals on my visit. Definitely on my list of bars to re-visit.More

Me and my 7 friends from Norwegian beer club The Thirsty Camels were to conclude our yearly Belgian tour Monday morning, and as usual we had a couple of places to visit before leaving for the airport, De Monk is nor far from Grand Place's...west side, down a couple of quarters. A nice "brown" place with old stylish furniture, and lots of good beers. Actualley also a popular lunch cafe as people peeped in as clock was striking 12 while we were enjoying our beers. I cannot say how the food is at the place but really recommended for a beer or two.More

Just been in to have a beer. Waited for over 10 minutes, standing at the bar, waiting to be served. Was looked at several times by the barman but never acknowledged. They were too busy drinking their coke and checking their phones. Gave up! I...am not the tallest person so am used to waiting but have never felt so ignored in my life. So rude! So angry and wasn't going to give them my business. Another bar gained and their loss!More
