Forget The Food, Enjoy The View

I stopped at this restaurant at the end of August to try a typical Belgian dish, the Lapin a la Kriek, i.e. rabbit in beer and cherry sauce. The rabbit was a little short on meat and the sauce short on actual sauce, but the potato croquettes were excellent. Best of all though was the view. During good weather you can sit outside on the patio in the Grand Place, and my table faced the majestic Hotel de Ville. You can forgive any imperfection in the food when facing such a glorious sight.The service was very quick and cordial, and the price was decent considering the location. I would definitely recommend the place on a warm, sunny day.

Hoped for better

We had been searching Brussels for a waffles place and finally found what we thought we were looking for. We ended up needing to get a "full meal" first which, I have to admit, was rather nice in the form of Flemish beef with a salad and fries. The waffles were next but even though they looked the part, they were crisp like dried toast. Maybe that's the way real Belgian waffles are made, as I'm used to those made in other countries which are softer. Still, we ate them and they were ok but the disappointment remained. Staff were ok, albeit not as warm as they could've been and our overall feeling towards the place was average.

A good option in Central Brussels

A very nice and old-fashioned restaurant located at the Grand Place, in the very heart of Brussels. Waiters were nice, although they seemed to not pay so much attention to each customer, maybe because of the great number of clients. The menu had a good variety of dishes and drinks. We chose two typical Belgian dishes: the sausages and the meat balls, which were delicious and came with mashed potatoes. The sauce was very good! We chose the tarte Tatin for dessert, which was also tasty. Overall a good experience, although it was very crowded and a bit noisy.

We were in this restaurant because of the position, but the experience wasnt good at all!!! Firstly, we ordered a dish of mussels and it was as if there was some sand in them... completely unpleasant... Secondly, the service was too slow for such a restaurant. And last but not least, sad atmosphere, tiny tables and very very dirty toilets !

We were the first costumers of the day but the staff was too busy laughing and showing each other videos at the bar to attend to us. We waited half an hour for our food and when it came it was cold. We had fish ‘n chips and croque madame and nothing was warm nor crispy. It looked nothing like the photos outside. It was way overprized too.

Horrible!!!!

Absolutely do not spend your money here. Arrogant waitresses, terrible food, unacceptable to serve this type of food to customers. Do not come here!! We came for a family dinner and had a terrible experience. What I got was meant to be a club sandwich but the bread was rock solid, the cheese was cold and the lettuce looked a week old. Hard to believe this place is still working! Don’t let the cuteness of the outside fool you to come in! Absolutely stay away!!

Only good for drinks.

Rude staff, moved tables from outside to inside and it was obvious from staff reaction this wasn’t welcomed. Fish meal was served to one of our family of four cold and pale. Meal was replaced eventually after 3 other members of staff taste checked it. By this time rest of group had finished. Staff apologised once and still charged full price for the meal. Doesn’t do alot for the reputation of grand place eateries.

Just don’t waste your time

Poor service and poor quality drinks is all you’ll get from here. We waited 25 minutes to be served after been given a menu. A further 20 minutes for them to deliver the drinks, and what we got was awful. The Aperol Spritz is was flat and was clearly just a shot of aperol and soda water…for €10!! Not a splash of prosecco in sight. Avoid this place, just take a picture on the square and move on.

Great spot but don’t expect a lot

Lovely position on the Grand Place, great atmosphere, warm with open fireplaces, good selection of food, beer and wine. Mega slow service, food served at a tepid temperature, staff seem overwhelmed. Clearly a tourist joint, bet they’re aren’t many locals that come here. We had a nice hour or so here though so can’t complain too much.

Don't eat here

I have been here a few times. Smells a bit like toilet during the day. Overpriced and the so-called croque monsieur we both ordered were made of dry bread with small piece of ham and even smaller piece of cheese. No bechamel sauce. It came back with black ham and the ketchup was gone. Not recommended.

Poor customer service!

Extremely poor customer service, food arrived cold and notified waitress (pasta hot, bolonaise cold)- viewed staff having a discussion and looking at me.. minutes later waitress arrived back with food still in the same condition- it was still cold. Alot of staff training required to improve service going forward. This is an insult to Belgian hospitality!!

Very good food/ excellent location/ service is slow

I'll begin w/ the positive: the location is first rate. The food is very good. And when we first took the table we were served and all was fine. I had the mussels w/ garlic - excellent and so many - it's a dish for two. The garlic and wine combination was perfection. My companion had the pasta carbonara, again excellent and very tasty. We also had a bottle of still water, a coke, and a beer (a large beer which was very large.) The bill came to 62.50 which was very reasonable. Thereafter, the negative was it took 15 or 20 minutes to pay the tab. The servers were overwhelmed. It's a nice location so it wasn't a hardship to sit and wait, and wait ... but after a time it's "time".

Great service, food and interior, but a bit pricey

Such a comfy and cosy restaurant, we didn't want to leave. Our waitress was very polite and friendly. We told her we were in a hurry and asked how quickly the food would be, she said very quick and it was, we didn't have to wait long. We ordered the soup and asked what a traditional Belgian dish was, and ordered a stew with chips. It was all very filing and tasty. We also had some Bora Bora mocktails that were excellent. For dessert we had a traditional Belgian waffle with whipped cream and strawberries. Everything was so good. There is a fireplace in the restaurant which we were lucky to sit near. It was so cozy, so nice just to sit there, and they weren't trying to hurry us out. I highly recommend eating here.

Little knowledge about products

The girl's knowledge of their housewine was white, rose or red??? Didn't know which grapes the white was made from. Another girl had to assist. Great location. Went 2 days. Service was slow on both days especially when tables asked for their bills. Otherwise, everyone that ordered food seemed to enjoy it, and it looked like good portion sizes. Have a fruit fly problem.

We visited La Chaloupe d'or restaurant on a Friday evening just after arriving to Brussels. The location was just superb. Service was fine. We had fish and chips and chocolate mousse. It was a good experience. Beers were also fine!
