I ended up at Indian restaurant La Vallée du Kashmir because all the restaurants I had in mind for a solo diner in the Châtelain area were packed. I was seated inside with other diners at safely spaced tables. After the complimentary papadum I had...lamb keema samosa as a starter. To my taste they were a bit hard on the outside but they were yummy. As a main, I had chicken tandoori with cumin and saffron rice, served with three traditional sauces also accompanying the papadum. I loved the juicy chicken but the portion was so huge I had most of it doggy-bagged. La Vallée du Kashmir doesn’t serve alcohol but, on a workday evening, I had no problem whatsoever drinking tea with my meal. Prices on the menu do not include any sides but they are very moderate. The whole meal only set me back a little over 20 euros. La Vallée du Kashmir isn’t a very cosy place but the nice food and friendly service make up for it. The furniture, large wooden elephants and other accessories create an Indian feel but the bad lighting – overly strong spotlights directed at the top of the walls and the ceiling – ruins the atmosphere. That would be easy to remedy. The view on the street and the garage and bicycle shop opposite is also less than enticing. I wouldn’t have minded if it had been curtained off!More
Excellent vegetarian take away during the times of pandemic COVID-19. Delicious starters with full range of tastes. Good meals. Affordable prices
Tried the take away service of this restsursnt. Quick and easy. Ordered a chicken jalfrezi; it was not superhot and had a pleasant taste. However, not reminiscent of any other jalfrezi I tried before. Disappointing. Sub-par food for sure - at least this dish.
I like a beer with my curry, so the "dry" policy was a bit of a disappointment. Unfortunately, so was everything else. The sheik kebab starter gave the impression that it had been microwaved, the lamb Kashmir curry was watery, although reasonably meaty, and the...dal just dull. You get a decent portion of rice with your curry without paying extra. It's not expensive. The service was efficient and friendly enough.More
I am British so know a bit about curry. This place would not last long if it was in the UK. Popadoms (small) came broken in pieces and without any pickles. The Thali was quite pathetic - small portions of soggy vegetables, a little bit...of rice and limp salad. Very poor in both quantity and quality. The shrimps were lauded as a signature dish, but were pretty tasteless specimens plonked in a thin watery sauce. Vegetable jalfrezi was similarly disappointing. Nan bread was ..... small...... and not crispy and luscious but merely warm, soft and spongy. The fried okra was good. We ordered more because the portions of everything else were parsimonious. I was left feeling hungry, so ordered a lamb madras. I should have known better. The meat was dry, chewy and tasteless. The sauce appeared to be the juice from a tin of tomatoes that had been watered down. The worst madras I have ever had. And I have had a few. A theme of this place is thin, watery sauces where you can see the water separate on the plate. The owner might (as in other reviews) become defensive or ask us to give them a second chance. No chance of that. Instead, she needs to get a proper chef, one who knows how to reduce sauces to the correct consistency. If you like good honest Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi food, go elsewhere.More
Hello sir thanks a lot for ur so objective opinion !
As proudly stated on its website, this Indian/Pakistani restaurant is present in Chatelain since 1986, long before it became the popular hanging out area it is today. Hopefully, the recipes are still traditional as at the time, but in the meanwhile they also modernize themselves....It is possible to book a table online and pay with any type of card, meal vouchers included. At the same time, the lady who took our order and, likely to be the owner, can easily manage the whole sitting area without noting anything down, but still make sure everything arrives fast and warm and nothing is missing. We tried a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes (chicken and mutton are very common in the north of India), and I can personally recommend the dahl, the mixed vegetables and the spicy mutton. We were less convinced by the palak paneer, which had an unusual mix of spices. The nan and paratha were certainly tasty, but perhaps too heavy and fried. Finally, the price is reasonably cheap. NB: they make a point of not serving alcohol. Perhaps not my favourite Indian, but definitely worth bringing someone when dining in the area.More
Thank you for ur kind remarks hopefully to see u again
My wife and I visited the place. My wife had a thali and it was ok but I ordered the mutton madras. I love my spicy food but this was one of the worst I ever tasted. Water was evident on my plate. It’s one...of those restaurants you try and you never returnMore
Ordered takeout on a Friday night. It was all horrible and I think the meat was dodgy. Chicken tikka starter - chicken seemed ok in this but didn’t have any “tikka” flavour. Just flavourless chunks of chicken and very dry. Chicken vindaloo - tasted of...powder and nothing else. No nice spices, no chilli heat. The chicken was horrible - spongy texture. Chicken tandoori masala - very watery and so salty - salt was all it tasted of. Should have been creamy and wasn’t remotely. Chicken biryani - first of all I ordered lamb but they delivered chicken. Again, the meat was a funny texture and tasted rotten. No flavour to the rice. It is hard to find an acceptable curry house in Brussels but I’ve never had anything as truly awful as this before. Really, really bad! When I leave reviews I always try to cover the positives and the negatives but I honestly can’t think of a single redeeming thing to say about this meal.More
The food was tasty. Personell were professional. However a few other problems. The establishment could have needed an upgrade. Non-alcoholic beverages only was a downer. No indication of how hot the dishes were.
Its mentionned when the dish is tradionaly spicy , otherwise we asked if the client doesn't want too spicy as we made every dish fresh at the moment , thanks for ur réflexions it's always heipfull
This restaurant is one of the references in Brussels for indo-pakistani food for more than 20 years. Natural ingredients, tasty sauces, kind attention and service, warm environment. To visit it over and over and over.
Thanks for ur gentle remarks
We love this place. You feel like you're in India when you're inside. Dishes are fabulous! Not the oily curry you're used to having in other indian places. Quality is great. Only "negative" comment is that they don't serve alcohol. Other than that, we love...coming here!More
It's a so so Indian food better go to the everest which is not too far. Palak paneer is okay and papergam are Hut too oily...
Better to find a restaurant with a better service. Long time waiting for order and later, for a food. The waitress forgot about the ordered dessert.
Indian food the way it is supposed to be at very friendly prices in the area. The only drawback is no wine or alcohol served.
Hopefully to see u again
