Restaurant Basaal has been based at Dunne Bierkade, one of the most beautiful canals in the centre of The Hague since 2001. Chef Bas Oonk has led the way for years with his culinary style on Avenue Culinaire, a range of restaurants and cafes on Dunne Bierkade, each with their own unique and international style. Cosy restaurant and terrace Basaal serves dishes from the European kitchen in a warm, contemporary and intimate atmosphere. The restaurant consists of the adjoined parterres of two small town houses. In the summertime you can enjoy dining on the spacious terrace with view on the charming Dunne Bierkade. Kitchen Over the past few years, Bas Oonk's kitchen has evolved into a contemporary, basic style using regional products. For several years, Restaurant Basaal has been a member of Euro Toques, a collaborative that focuses on the use of natural, and preferably regional and seasonal produce. In 2015, the Michelin guide awarded the efforts and consistent quality of Basaal with a BiB Gourmand. 'Bib' is short for Bibendum, the Michelin man, that awards a mark of distinction to eating establishments that offer an excellent meal for under 37 euros.

There are better places in this category.

Really nothing wrong with this place although a bit noisy ... Food was quite OK but nothing extraordinary. Service was excellent. The Hague has quite a few better places in this category (Le Bistroquet comes to mind but there are many others ...)

The starter of chicken liver came as one dark arrangement of things in a sauce, all tasting the same. What the starter had too much of (sauce) the main course lacked. Rabbit with blood sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and a few bits of smoked sausage really needed sauce to bring elements together. Potatoes were really dry. Desert was an... More

I really wanted to love this place and in the end it won me over.. The pate and toastettes offered on arrival were gorgeous and by the time I finished off the salted butter and soft bread I was glad I didn't order an entree. Unfortunately there was a mix up with my order so I waited some time for... More

very good place to go in The Hague area. The meals are good, fine cuisine but not too fancy. menus are in dutch but the people speak very good english so it is very easy to order and comment the plates.

My husband and I had a wonderful meal at Basaal back in March, so when we were in The Hague again at the end of August and saw that the restaurant was on our walk to the Amaze Escape which we were doing later in the evening, we decided to go back. We had loved the tasty food and their... More

What a great place for a nice dinner! The Dutch restaurant week 6 years ago was for us as students at that time an opportunity to visit this nice restaurant for the first time. After graduating we are happy to come here a bit more often! Absolutely perfect service food and wines.

I came here for my one night in the Hague for dinner, alone. The restaurant was relatively empty inside, as most people were sitting outside. Decor and atmosphere were lovely. The service was amazing (even by US standards), everyone was so nice and I felt like they genuinely valued me as a customer, despite the fact that I'm relatively young... More

We have visited here 3 times during the last 6 month. The fish and vegetarian dishes are excellent (we don't eat meat, so I don't have an opinion on those dishes). The fish is not only fresh but usually perfectly prepared. Though once the fish was a bit overcooked rather than perfect, but when we mentioned it, the loss was... More

I do not think that I will come back - it should be all as recommendation or lack of it (whatever you prefer first). The restaurant is located nearly out of the city centre, but still not so far away, so you can enjoy your walk (unless it is raining 50/50 chance). The interior of the restaurant is cosy, and...
