We stopped here while driving past just looking for a typical Dutch brasserie. We got that and a bit more. We ordered family-style and they accommodated with a great menu fixed to perfection. Compliments to the chef and the service staff who performed at a...high level for this kind of place and price.More

We took my elderly mother out for supper for her birthday. Started out on the terrace first for a drink (when the sun was still out and the temperature was fine) and then moved inside to the recently renovated restaurant. The staff was most excellent...in alerting us on the terrace when our food was about ready so when it was time to move inside. When ready to leave, the staff had my mother's walker ready at the door for her. Top notch food and service. Washrooms were as you'd expect in a five star hotel.More

Stopped for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Dish was very artful, tasty and filling. Many locals eat here and it has a great atmosphere. i was not expecting much as it is small, but the truffle dish was superb as was the radical version of...apple strudel.More

Be sure to stop by on your way out of Leiden during a summer’s day. The terrace is quite nice. And the restaurant is really close to the near Amsterdam - The Hague- Rotterdam motorway. The menu is mediocre. Don’t expect surprises. The waiters are...a bit quaint.More

We had lunch in this restaurant which looks better inside than expected. We order 'uitsmijter' and a sandwich with 'kroket'. However, when served, the kroket was still cold inside. After a complaint the same happened after which my wife also ordered the 'uitsmijter'. Apparently they...had just changed the brand of 'kroket' and the waitress solved it by offering of free coffee and tea, otherwise the rating would have definitely been a poor 😟. Must be nice to visit on a sunny day overviewing the Vliet canal ...More

After a day of house shopping with some friends we decided to have dinner at cronesteyn. Nice place and easy location close to the highway by the waterside. Service was good, food also.

We have been eating at the Brasserie Cronesteyn every Tuesday or Wednesday after work for several weeks. The menu varies and offerings are available for all income levels, which means before 5.00 p.m. prices are very reasonable; formal evening meals are 'fine dining' prices, but it...is fine dining! We have been eating the 'wild' menu. The offerings are limited and they are superb! Only once, unfortunately when we took a colleague to dinner, was there a miss. We have tried the fish and beef main course offerings from the general menu; and the delightful variety of the game menu--the Duck is brilliant. Their desserts are to die for! And we usually split one as they are rich. Rounded off with an Expresso and a Merlot, and you've had a real treat. The Staff are polite & efficient AND if you need an English menu or need to speak English, no problem! In summer, it's great to sit outside and watch goings on on the canal. We recommend this place whole heartedly!More

Cronesteijn is located along a nice part of the Rijn-Schie canal, a few yards outside the city boundary of Leiden. The restaurant itself is a bit outdated with its heydays seemingly in times long past. The oma Bobs croquettes tasted just like the croquettes in...any other cafeteria in the Netherlands. The accompanying fries were salty but crispy. Service was slow and indifferent. The bill came to 10 Euro including a cup of tea. This location deserves a better restaurant.More

On entering the restaurant you are greeted to a warm but a little dated decor which just adds to the quiet ambiance of this little gem of a restaurant. The service was prompt and very professional. All good up to now you'd think yes, but...in no way were we prepared to be so blown away with the perfection of food that graced our plates. Delicious, doesn't seem to do it justice. I was amazed with the quality of the food and would definitely go there again. This is a place I would definitely recommend to friends and family.More

South of Leiden on busy waterway and bicycling path. Great view facing West, which means into the sun. Large terrace when it's warmer. Menu varies every month and varied. Chef has great creativity and good combinations. Good prices and good wine selection. Service very informed...and friendly. We had a great time. Much improved ambiance and menu. Well worth the stop. Not downtown, but if you bring your bicycle, you can make a memorable trip down the Roman-dated Vliet canal.More

They do try, I'll give them tha. The terrace really is brilliant in summer and bites to go with the drinks are good. Dishes and rolls which they serve for luncheon are good, not too expensive, but when it comes to dinner time... you will...find yourself right back in the eighties, but with a bigger price tag... Eventhough they have tried to give the place a hipper image, a bit of a make over, it still has a bit of a run down vibe. That said, it seems to be no problem at all, always lots of customers. Customers tend to be mainly 60 years of age and up, except for summertime when 20-30 ers crowd the terrace at the waterfront sipping a rose or prosecco. Staff is a bit rude at times, but they are really young, which might have something to do with it.More
