Amazing and consistent place in the heart of Haarlem . Everything on the menu is freshly prepared and the coffee is excellent. This is worth a stop whether you are passing through or living in the area.

I usually visit in the morning for a breakfast or brunch. By now I've tried most of what's offered for breakfast and I think they were all very tasty so far. The coffee's nice, the bone-shaped cookie included with it is a nice touch. I...have no complaints for the atmosphere either; the music's great and not too loud either and I really like the interior of the restaurant. As far as I know, you can't make a reservation for breakfast, but I like to go as early as I can to avoid crowds anyway.More
FYI they don’t take reservations for breakfast/brunch/lunch. However we were pretty lucky to get a spot. I understand why some reviews mention the slow service, mainly with drinks. It takes awhile. However food arrived at a fair time. Food is great and a nice fusion...of flavors but the portion size is pretty average for the price you are paying. It’s a cool spot to try outMore
On our first (and last) visit to this establishment, we ordered breakfast with coffee. We found the coffee extremely bitter, and after just one sip explained to the waitress that it was not to our liking. She apologized and asked if we would like something...different to drink; we ordered two teas. When the bill arrived, we noticed that we were charged for the coffees. We brought it to the attention of the waitress, and she went to get the owner, who was quite rude and refused to remove the charge for coffees that we did not consume. She said, “we stand behind our product”. So, for the price of two cups of coffee, she lost business from two discerning diners who have lived in Haarlem for more than 20 years and eat out 3-4 times per week. Her loss; there are far better restaurants in charming Haarlem, and you will find superior coffee in at least half a dozen cafes in town: Blend, Mogador, Ted’s, Anne & Max, Lima, Doppio…. In summary: the coffee is extremely bitter, but not as bitter as the owner’s attitude.More
How slow can you go? Not slow enough it seems if you’re working at the Frenchie restaurant in Haarlem. Aptly named I might add. It was a Friday if I recall correctly, the sun was out but there was a brisk breeze in the air....We thought to ourselves, “ooh we have 1.5 hours to eat before we must scuttle off to the airport, hopefully their service is prompt”. Oh no no no, how wrong we were. Approximately 10 minutes later and after several attempts at coercing a member of staff towards our table, a menu appeared... but only by request of a concerned patron also attempting to order. Greeted with little to no enthusiasm our orders were taken, 5, 10 maybe even 15 minutes later we had become slightly nervous. And just at that moment the heavens opened, a sudden downpour... we retreated inside with haste. We asked ever so politely, “do you have a table inside”. “YOU CAN SIT AT THE BAR!”, the waitress snapped. Oh fantastic we’ll squeeze in... Another glorious 10 minutes later... the chef began to ring the bell, ping... ping... ping... We saw our orders getting cold on the counter, (alongside the other 5 or 6 dishes) whilst the waitresses twiddled their chubby thumbs - pottering around, cutting lemons seemingly unaware of the chaos that ensued before them. PING. I thought to myself, “shall I serve myself or let my lunch get cold and my flight leave without me”... no I’m not some self-serving maniac. Five more painful, and I mean painful minutes later the food was plonked on to the bar and I thought “Jesus Christ, what’s that”. The remnants of yesterday’s leftovers, no it was the salad, gloriously undersized, spectacularly overpriced and generally looking miserable. But alas, we’d only waited 45 minutes for it... we reluctantly began. The L.A sandwich was average at best but slightly more substantial than the salad. All in all very, very poor, I’d recommend the Frenchie restaurant if you’re not hungry and have ample time to waste. Do better. Good day.More
Frenchie has been rated as the best newcomer in Haarlem in 2019 and we were dying to find out for ourselves! Frenchie is located at the busy and bustling street de Gedempte Oudegracht in Haarlem, which is in de middle of the centre and next...to a road were cars and busses drive through. Eventhough they have a small terrace outside, we chose a table for dinner inside. When you enter the old building, you get transported back to bygone colonial days with a slight urban touch... we liked it! Frenchie has a creative menu with a French base but influences or flavours of Asia and Latin-America. They offer a ‘Best of Frenchie’ menu with the choice of a Four or Six course menu - Omnivore or Vegetal for the price of €49 or €65. Accompanying wine arrangements are offered too. And if you’re in the mood for something a la carte this is possible too. We chose the four course Omnivore menu with a nice wine selection which we enjoyed very much! Our absolute favourite this evening was the Duck! Oh my, it was delicious and super tender! Most probably the best we’ve had in a while! Our waiter was also very nice and hospital and really put his heart and soul into making it a very nice evening & dinner. We can definitely recommend a visit to Frenchie and reservations are in order.More
Had breakfast here which was amazing. Great variety and even better coffee. Would definitely recommend
Couldn’t fault the food or service. The menu is written so you can’t fully know what to expect. The dishes arrived looking beautiful and tasting delicious- what a treat! Up there in my top 5 meals.
Went here for breakfast. Wanted to sit outside in the sun, but terrace was full. Waitress moved an extra table outside, great start! Had the pancakes and French toast, both nice. Although the pancakes weren't as sweet as expected. Nice coffee and orange juice!
Went past as the menu is mouthwatering. The ramen was tastful, all the food around us looked really good. However, the staff was not friendly nor attentive. They came across as quite moody and didn't smile. Please include my egg and peel it next time,...like you did for my partner.More
Friendly service and with a little ‘juggling’ our waitress made a plan to accommodate 6 of us for lunch on a busy Christmas market day. Not a big menu but varied options - we were all very happy with our choices. Good vibe and will...be going back.More
Great independent place that had a great atmosphere and a great variety of food. We went at lunchtime on the last day of our stay and wish we had time to go back in the evening as the menu looked even better. Fresh ingredients and...the owners were very friendly and had a great personal touch too. They catered a group of 7 of us and the couple sitting at a large table moved so we could get in - very nice people. Would definitely go back.More
Amazing dish (oeff pochee). I always come here when I’m in Haarlem. It’s a great spot also with chill music and an open kitchen. Highly recommend it.
A great place to stop for a drink and nibble. We enjoyed the chocolate torte on offer. We didn’t try the menu but would another time. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely.
it is always great to discover new places and this was our first visit to amserdam, we decided to opt for haarlam on the first night as it was late when we arrived and we could not face the obvious hustle of the capital. we...stopped at Frenchie as it was just opposite our bus stop back to the hotel and were seriously impressed with the bar come restaurant, run by young people who seriously know their beers and wines. the place was full of diners and drinkers and i could see one table where every lady was tucking in to the most delightful cheese plate and drinking good bottles of wine. We took the barman's advice and tried some crafted beer - i have only just discovered that beer is not just a male drink but some of the more delicate ones are delicious, I had a light lager called Gulpener Vaasje - my husband had a Spicey Roger which was darker and more full bodied but so good and lived up to it's name both beers were served in great beer come wine glasses and the bill was just 7 euros. We would have sat down to some cheese but we had only just finished dinner so had to get back to the hotel before the last bus. This is a great place, nice atmosphere, not casual and not smart but perfect for a great night out or just a drink in good company - i love that it is run by young smart people enthusiastic to share their knowledge of food and drink to the non locals. Thanks for a good drink of great beer rita and gennaro avellino italyMore
