Wonderful Food and Staff

A group of 13 of us came for a birthday meal. The waitress was great, really helpful and obviously took pride in her job. The food was amazing, fresh, authentic Greek food carefully executed. We all ate more than physically comfortable as it was all so delicious! They also brought out a little... read more

I have only the best things to say about Divan. Our group of 8 made a reservation not long before we arrived, and the friendly, helpful proprietress made us feel very much at home. We basically told her to just feed us, and she brought us plate after meze plate of absolute deliciousness. The entire staff were cheerful and there... More

Ten of us were looking for a place to eat about 8 p.m. in Amsterdam. It seemed as though most places were closed. We found Divan by accident and everyone found something on the menu that tempted them. The waitress was charming and the food was amazing. I have never eaten Turkish food before, but now I am a fan.... More

This is a restaurant specialising in Turkish food. We ate Mezze type starters followed by a Lamb main course for my husband and bean and tomato dish for myself. The main course were delicious separately and even better when we shared them complementing each other well. Service was very friendly and perhaps slightly slow but perfectly understandable when serving fresh... More

I have eaten in this Turkish restaurant located in Jordaan, the heart of old Amsterdam, a few times already and I have always enjoyed very friendly atmosphere there. But most of all the splendid Turkish homemade food preapred on the spot by the whole a Turkish family. You feel like being in Orient, enjoying the delicious Turkish food, bitter sweet... More

It was our last dinner in Amsterdam so we tried this little place around the corner from our flat. Our hostess (and I presume proprietress) was lovely and made us feel welcome from the moment we set foot in the place. We were the only ones there but she was attentive without being overcrowding. We had a few "mezze" (they... More

Took some work colleagues for dinner there on a recommendation. Great meal all around, everybody raving about how good the food is. Its own take on Turkish food and a very good one at that. Next day, a few other colleagues had joined us on the trip and we got there just as the kitchen closed. Knowing we had travelled... More

My wife and I ate here on our recent leisure trip to Amsterdam. We has a very pleasant experience. The food was quite authentic. I recently spent a week in Turkey and the menu at Divan featured many of the dishes I enjoyed in Turkey. We ordered a wide variety of vegetarian and meat oriented dishes and all we very... More

Found this by accident and we were so glad we did! We ordered a number of appetizers and it was plenty of food for dinner for four! Great food, we wanted to lick the plates! Service was wonderful - we think it was probably the woman proprietor - she was so warm and made us feel at home. Enjoyed the... More

This Turkish restaurant in downtown Amsterdam came highly recommended on TripAdvisor and Iens, making it hardly impossible to be a miss. Or so we thought... The restaurant itself looks nice enough. We reserved for dinner on Friday night and upon arriving, after finally getting someone to attend to us after a couple of minutes, were rushed to our table. There... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
