Stopped for a spot of lunch after an exhausting morning shopping and the menu looked good. What a little gem it turned out to be. The stuffed and rolled chicken breast with baby roast was really moist and full of flavour and the chicken burger, well hard to be too enthusiastic about a burger, but it was pretty very tasty... The location is one of the best attributes of this place. It is located at the intersection of Wijde Kapelsteeg and Rokin and there is outdoor space on both streets, giving you the chance to see the action on both. If you want more action sit on the Rokin side. If you want it calmer and quieter, sit on the... More

Went for Lunch with a friend, we were both content. I ordered, very Dutch: Kroketten with bread. When they came they were luke warm, I had some bites and the waitress asked how my food was. I told her it was not piping hot, like I think the kroketten should be. She promptly offered to get me new ones. They... More

Just dropped in on a Saturday evening. Very nice surrounding, great food and a fantastic waitress. Very much enjoyed our meal and would not hesitate to go back. Priced very reasonable.

Living in Amsterdam for 26 years, I would not normally walk into a restaurant on main streets like the Rokin, presuming it to be a place primarily for tourists. When we walked into Beems last Friday night it was initially prompted by seeing the sign for champagne outside, which the wife and I duly drank, but it was the food... More

Came here on a Saturday for lunch. At the time, only two women working the whole restaurants. Some customers seemed perturbed but we had a lovely time. The croquettes were great!

Having returned to Amsterdam and commenting on how friendly we found everyone in all bars and restaurants this was not the case in Beems on our last day. The 2 waitresses service was appalling nor had they manners and were very rude to our group. Avoid !! Very disappointing

My friend and I walked in just to warm up a little bit and have a coffe. I wasn't interested so much in a drinks as she was. First they told us that we both need to order something or no servise at all. Second is that the waiters lie to us saying that they don't accept paying with card... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
