It is a good choice when it is not very busy. Great staff, and fast service. Noise level gets quite high when it is busy. There are one set of comfy lounge seats that are nearly always taken. But the other chairs outside serve as a goof people watching spot. It is a bar, certainly not the best bar. But... More

Staff were lovely and tell us about the local area, including the time Bill Clinton visited. Can even sit on a side buildings roof and order you next drink or meal through the window. We didn't eat here but the food looked good

We had just finshed lunch but were walking the Canal Ring and wanted to hit a Brown Cafe. Although all of the customers were sitting out at street tables on a beautiful day, we went into the bar to see the facility. We experienced one of the nicest people we met while in Amsterdam in meeting the bartender at Tabac.... More

We stopped there for a cafe with our guide while visiting the Jordaans area. This is one the oldest brown cafes of the city and the inside is really worth seeing. Glasses suspended on the ceiling, wooden walls, cosy tables with banks, nice staff. We did not try the apple pies, but they looked delicious, and I'm sure they are.... More

Not the most inspiring name and doesn't look up to much. Small restaurant on a corner with a bar down one side. Small menu with mostly Asian food. Chef looks Indonesian and there are certainly some Indonesian dishes on the menu. Had the chicken satay and really enjoyed it perhaps because it was a generous portion and the chicken pieces... I live in the neighbourhood and this is my favourite bar. It's cosy, friendly, in a lovely spot with great views of the canals and the Noordermarkt. The food is nice (great Dim Sum!) and there is a nice choice of beers. The interior is modest and has an old fashioned charm with its wooden floors and big windows. I... More

When you enter Tabac you will enter a nice real Amsterdam "brown" café. After a few drinks the nice lady behind the bar told us that is was also possible to have diner. The Indonesian kitchen with soto ajam an indonesian soup, gado gado a very nice vergetarian meal. We had a lovely afternoon and evening.

Went here last night after a long day and it is the perfect cost place to grab some late night fried snacks and a beer. Decent bar that is close to city centre but would not go here for lunch or dinner.

This is a really nice place in a great location. It has a laid back atmosphere and the food was awesome. I would definitely recommend a visit.

It's a pretty standard issue Dutch bar, they serve Indonesian food, which is cool, but the real attraction is the location intersecting two canals. You can usually bank on some attractive Dutchies hanging around! Definitely NOT a cocktail place, simple beer and wine is really what it's about.
