A very atmospheric place must visit once in Amsterdam! Don't plan to have a good meal, better plan to spend a good evening in an old fortress! The cuisine seemed to be old-fashioned, you will not find traditional steaks or chicken, but it suits the...interior! The place is good for special occasions and to meet old friends!More

A nice eye-catcher from the outside. Very nice old fashioned. With markets in front of it. However, the food and drink is mediocre. All right, but nothing special. Ok for a short stay if you are around. However, it is not worth going there for...the food. There are too many good alternatives for this. Too bad, actually! With a little more effort, the cafe could run better and would be better attended. For the prices, unfortunately no recommendationMore

Lively place for a late lunch. Not sure what I had: I think it was something simple, like a burger, but I remember it being very delicious. The service was a little slow after we were seated, but the beer selection was excellent, the food...was excellent, it's very well located and a fun setting. And our waitress was very nice and very friendly. It was an especially good value because we got a substantial discount for lunch with our City Card. Be sure to use yours: they are more than accommodating when you tell them you have a discount. The Dutch love a bargain! (or that's what they all tell me.)More

I went to this cafe every morning for breakfast, its absolutely to die for! The service was wonderful and on certain days they had a market right outside its doors so that was a nice bonus.

Came in from the rain. No more expensive than anywhere in Amsterdam but the platter and wine were reasonably priced. Service was the best. The staff were just lovely and welcoming. A lovely haven for a cold wet day.

Came in for a light snack and found the staff very friendly, service fine and a good range of beers on offer. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area- it's a very atmospheric place. We came back with the idea of coming...for dinner but the prices were high - so went elsewhere.More

Our family came here for Christmas dinner, and we're very disappointed with the quality of the food, the slow service and unfriendly staff. The wait time between courses was exceptionally long and the food was mediocre. The staff were grumpy, unfriendly and unhelpful. Then after...an hour and 45 minutes we were informed that the next party who had reserved our table had arrived and we were asked to move to another table!! Never in my life have I been asked to move before finishing the meal, and before they even served our desert! Horrible experience. Will NEVER return to this restaurant.More

Fantastic place great atmosphere to get away from the Smokey cafe bars, brilliant service. We just stumbled across this Amsterdam gem. Great menu and wine was good not expensive.

We wanted to try a traditional Dutch restaurant while in Amsterdam and the Cafe in de Waag is recommended by our hotel and cruise line, given that it’s a centuries old building in the Nieuwmarkt area that’s an easy walk from downtown hotels. Their menu...is VERY limited, so probably pass if you have dietary restrictions. My wife had a risotto dish that was delicious and my salmon filet was prepared perfectly. Service was solid, but it’s the Middle Ages setting that you’re going there to enjoy.More

You should make reservations. We had lunch there in November which is hardly peak season and the place was very busy. You won't be disappointed there.
