I have been there 3 times for dinner in the last few month and will definitely go again. Little expensive, but excellent food. It is in the Jordaan area which is a very nice part of Amsterdam and not overfilled by tourist.

I think this is a "hidden" gem - if I had to have a "last meal" I'd want it to be here. The long time chef and owner, Wil Demandt, always prepares a delightful French/Dutch fusion meal of fresh local food with wonderful pairings of wine. [If he is out, the other chefs substitute flawlessly.] He more often than not... More

I was overnighting in Amsterdam before taking a flight to UK and coincidentally so was my cousin and her husband so we were excited to catch up and initially the funny system of owner/chef having to go to every table and explain menu & specials was great as it gave us time to catch up but then after one hour... the cooks are great, the chief cook is fantastic! You can feel cooking is not just business, it's a way of life for the chief cook, going to the biological market every day, living along the seizons, the love for everything, the wine, original staff.. everything is almost old fashioned taking care of.

I've been to this restaurant several times. It's been around for 25 years, so that speaks to its quality. The food is always great, regional produce and locally caught fish, cooked and served with a very personal touch. You can order a la carte, but the menu is great and very well priced, starting at €40 for 3 courses; there... More

Even with walking directions in hand, we had a challenge finding this restaurant. The attention to patrons was excellent, the menu quite interesting and the interior is stark and small with most diners sitting outside. We had the fish special for the evening and although it was to be 'roasted', the whole fish looking like it was just newly caught... More

If you go out looking for good food in Amsterdam this is THE place to be. No, it is not the "hipster" place to be, although the restaurant looks surprisingly modern. However it already exists for 31 years in exactly this form. At the time it was it's time ahead. The chairs are almost museum pieces and designer chic but... More

I returned to this restaurant a second time - I went in January. First, my daughter has a list an arm long of foods she can't eat including gluten and all sort of restrictions. I have never seen a fine dining restaurant that extended themselves as much as they did to meeting her needs. The chef looks the part and... More

Bordewijk was on top of my list for years. The chef came to our table and recommended the menu. Everything was delicious and creative: the amuse from homemade liverwurst, the fish, the lamb and the dessert with strawberries. The sauces are so good you wished they could bottle it and sell it. The restaurant itself is beautiful with a great... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
