“Haesje Claes” is a restaurant situated in the historical center of Amsterdam, between the Spui and the Dam square, across from the Amsterdam Museum. The restaurant occupies six, epic buildings, in which the original architectural features such as little steps, corridors and hallways all have been preserved. Likewise, the exterior of the building is a beautiful example of traditional Dutch architecture. All chambers are breathing a century old ambiance, perfectly suited for a comfortable and casual lunch or dinner. The name Haesje Claes originates from the Lady Haesje Claes, who was born in 1520, and was a daughter of a rich salesman. She was also the founder of the “Burgerweeshuis” (orphanage)

The meals we all ordered were outstanding. The salads made of local seasonal fare were as unique as they are were delicious. The salmon, poached with bearnaise sauce melted in my mouth. Desert was equally pleasant. Don’t miss this experience while in Amsterdam.

Awesome food at this lovely Dutch restaurant. Have been here twice for dinner now and it’s worth every cent. The staff are so warm and friendly and make you feel so welcome. The apple pie and ice cream is to die for. So yum!!

This was an interesting experience. The restaurant is set within a 16th century building. The restaurant itself has been on the site since the 1930s. We were shown to the third floor, which is accessed by narrow, occasionally winding flights of steps. We passed a...More
