Came to Kantjil on the recommendation of some Dutch friends who know my penchant for spice! As I was in Amsterdam on a research trip I was alone for dinner - the restaurant specialises in "rijstafel" but they do have a mini version on a single plate (having said mini - there was so much I couldn't finish it). The... More

Really nice place! Went there with high expectations and for those who love this kind of food it don’t let you down! Great service! Excellent timings on serving the food. The food was delicious. Good location and for me was great to pick the tram just outside the door to the hotel!

Me and my dad orderd 6 dishes and portion size was perfect. Not too much, but just enough. Which i appreciate, I don't like throuwing food away. The vegetables of the gado gado were nice and crispy. Saté ayam so tender and the beef rendang also. The spicyness was also perfect. Spicy but manageable. The rice table menu was expensive... More

++ : 1. the place is quite representing Indonesia back in 1940's. 2. The portion was so big with reasonable price (tho it wasnt a backpaker price) 3. The toilet was clean -- : 1. They played annoying song which doesnt have any corelation with the theme of restaurant. 2. The food was okay, but not that Indonesian taste. Maybe... More

I saw this listed in timeout and wanted to give it a go. Reservations were easy and definitely required as it was really busy. The atmosphere was lovely, food was amazing and service was great. As a vegetarian I was spoilt for choice! The meal was delicious and I would love to go there again if we go back!

We ate here for dinner on the first night and were really jetlagged and hungry. The food was superb! Try everything, just remember to ask about spice levels😊

We went on American Thanksgiving and enjoyed a lovely seafood rijstafel. We shared rijstafel for two among two adults and our 13 year old son and it was plenty of food! Our 11 year old is not an adventurous eater and enjoyed the chicken satay. Wonderful experience! Their peanut sauce is a must!!

Dear Kantjil, The boy who is working behind the counter today, has been so rude I cancelled the order and took my guests out. A Kantjil box filled up to 80% with rice, is a waste of the otherwise quiet nice meal you serve.

Dear Henny H, Thank you for your nice review. Great to have you back in our restaurant. The rijsttafel is indeed quite a big meal. You need to take some time to indulge it. Come back to Amsterdam soon so you can visit us again! Sincerely, Alfan More

We attended this restaurant in a group (2 couples and 3 children). They accommodated us, without a reservation, and provided activities for the children whilst waiting. The staff were excellent in explaining the menu and were fantastic to deal with. The food was delivered quickly and delicious. I'm so glad we chose this restaurant and it should not be missed... Dear Ben R, Thank you for your kind words. So glad we could accomodate you and the kids. We understand very well how to deal with children in our restaurant. Although some of the dishes could be too spicy for them, we hope they had a good time as you did. Hope to see you again next time. Sincerely, Alfan More
