We visited Kantjil & de Tijger our first night in Amsterdam, and despite some jet lag, really enjoyed the experience of rijstafel, an Indonesian rice meal that is accompanied by small plates. The food was very good and plentiful (best we had in Amsterdam) and the flavors were delicious. There were some problems though. Our table was very small, and... More

This is a bustling, noisy, obviously popular restaurant in an active part of the city. The food was much enjoyed by our party of four. The Dutch obviously have hearty appetites because there was much more than we could comfortably devour. I only subtract a star because the rijstafel menu was difficult to understand, so much so that we had... More

My wife and I had Nasi Rames dishes, one with noodles and one with spicy fried rice. A compromise for fear of not being able to finish the Rijsttafel dish famous here. We were not disappointed in the least!! What a great meal. Highly recommended!!

Indonesian restaurants are quite hard to come by in the UK so we always make a point of visiting one when in Holland. Kantjil has a great location, great atmosphere, friendly staff and wonderful food. Having travelled to Indonesia since our last visit to Kantjil, I was a bit worried I wouldn't find the food as good or authentic as... More

I actually went to Kantji on two occasions. The first time was my first night in Amsterdam with a group of 5 and we ordered the rijstaffel and several other selections. I am quite familiar with Indonesian cuisine since my parents are Indonesian and I found the food to be quite good. I loved the gado gado and of course... More

Very good food and drinks. A little bit hot inside during summer, so make sure to sit outside if the weather is hot. Well worth a visit

My wife and I chose this restaurant on a whim and we were both delighted with the choice. This was our first time in an Indonesian Restaurant and we chose the Matjan Rijsttafel as our main course. This meal was served up in so many bowls of food that we just had enough room on the table for our plates.... More

Went here as a family on first night of visit to Amsterdam. Booked in advance using online booking - good job as restaurant full. Lots of choice on rijstafel menus ranging from spicey to mild, vegetarian through fish and meat. Excellent service and lively atmosphere but not too noisy for conversation.

Came on recommendation from hotel concierge and was not disappointed. Got one of the Rijsttafel meals which was pretty expensive and way too much food for two people, but it was soooooo good. Legitimately one of the best meals I've ever had, and I would definitely get again if ever back in Amsterdam.

We ate here last time we visited Amsterdam and were full of appreciation for this place as we lived for a time in Indonesia but on our return I felt disappointed. The dining rooms look basic/neglected with no Indonesian feel or decor. There is a bit of an unclean smell between the take away end and the restaurant which made... More
