We were looking for a quick meal before a Boom Chicago and this did not disappoint. It may look like a Hole in the Wall, but the menu doesn't seem to be in English (until you ask) so you know it's made for locals and not tourists. Very large portion sizes!

Truly stunning magic food served by lovely warm staff. Just like going back to Chiang Mai but less time flying

We ate at Cook Kai last week on our way to the station in Amsterdam. It is a very small restaurant, with a very limited amount of tables. We had a quick meal of different curries and then went back on to the station. The restaurant is nothing special: friendly people, quick service, okay food. The food is not magnificent... More

You must try the soups. The food was great, seem to be the locals choice. We enjoyed everything and of course the service.

Came here after wandering around for hours & we were starving! The food was well worth the wait and the waitress was lovely. Added bonus of being able to see the chef make our meals :) I would recommend this to anyone, high quality, reasonable prices and amazing taste!

Small, but really friendly staff. Only room for 3 tables inside, with Take away option. Good vegetarian options too, with really well done tofu. About €10 a main but the portion sizes are really good. Hidden away a little bit, and menu out (until you ask for an English one) is in Dutch, making the place feel local and one... More

I'm sorry to say that neither my friend nor I liked our dinner from Cook Kai. The restaurant is very small and more like a take away atmosphere than a restaurant space. My pad thai was just OK, while my salad and my friend's meal were poor.

It's a tiny restaurant with a take away function. I have tried both eat in and take away several times and can assure you that the food quality is of a high standard in terms of: Taste , appearance and hygiene. The 3 ladies will cook whichever dish you prefer and in front of you! I like this approach as... More

The food is amazing but not a great place to sit down. Go there, pick your food and go home to eat it. Delicious!

A great little place tucked away. Well worth a visit if you are nearby. We went just before seeing the Boom Chicago show. This place is tiny, and feels like you are eating in someone's kitchen, which is great. The food was fantastic and the service charming. Meal for 2 including starters and drinks was around £32, an absolute bargain!... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
