The best cocktails in town. Great staff, food is good and clientele is polite and friendly. John, the bartender, listens carefully to your requests and serves you like a champion. Alessandro, the waiter, loves to mele sure you’re comfortable and happy. Can you ask for...more?More

Our 30 something year old son suggested we 50 year olds go check out this cool small bar. We were skeptical but pleasantly surprised. We really lucked into a 4 top because it is very busy. They ask for your coats as you walk in...because they are very strict about no drugs being brought into their establishment. We were fine with it and felt very comfortable even though we were the old peeps in the bar. Fun place with great atmosphere and the drinks were amazing. Would suggest checking it out. An absolute disappointment. After reading the good reviews we had high expectations. At the door we were asked for our QR codes, which we showed. Then we also had to show our ID. My wife couldn’t show hers and we were refused to get in....Showing bank pass wasn’t enough. The worst thing was that the guy at the door treated us very unfriendly and rude and was not prepared to help. The place was nearly empty, so I don’t understand why they didn’t want our business. According to the door man masks were not required, so they were no very consequent. NEVER AGAIN!More

Our new favorite spot. Outstanding and creative cocktails. Great vibe. Friendly and attentive service (even outside). The mixologist will come talk to you about what he created (he didn’t let us down once!). Make a reservation though (due to covid). Not cheap but worth it....You won’t regret the experience.More

My favourite bar in Amsterdam! I have been here twice now and both times have had an amazing experience. The service is impeccable, you can see the staff love their job, the cocktails are amazing and very fairly priced! Make sure you make a reservation...though! I booked this for my boyfriends birthday, we had Jan (sorry if i misspelt your name!) who served our drinks, he was honestly amazing, so friendly and with a great humour. Make sure you try the Zombie!More

The staff was very friendly and helpful with the choice of cocktails. The menu present quite a lot and intresting cocktails; I personally chose the Eureka which was served literally in a bulb with a small light inside. Brilliant Idea! The place is quite small...so I would advise to book in advance if you are a large group.More

Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff (though they made a few mistakes on their history!) serving well presented, flavoursome cocktails. The barman made me his interpretation of a Manhattan, which was slightly in the sweet side, but absolutely delicious! One of the better bars in the city.

Great cocktails served by knowledgeable staff who were happy to chat and made my wife and I very welcome. Our favourite of the cocktail bars we visited in Amsterdam, highly recommended.

We decided to try this place as it is mentioned in a few guides as one to try. We've been to loads of amazing cocktail bars around the world and this isn't one. Really weird atmosphere, rules telling customers not to steal stuff, signs near...the toilets warning people not to trespass and you just constantly feel like you're being watched. Cocktails are pricey - some come with little props like mexican hats, but these immediately get taken away pretty much as soon as the drink is delivered to your table and you get tutted at if you even think of taking a photograph of your drink or yourself on holiday.More

We were a group of folks in our 50s/60s who waited from 5:15pm outside this lounge for their 5:30 opening time. The staff guy let us into the EMPTY lounge at 5:30 then told us that we couldn’t sit together because it wasn’t their “concept”....WTF? This idiot obviously must not be the business owner. He wouldn’t even let us sit in the same area of the lounge. We turned around and left. Lots of nice bars in Amsterdam- no need for this one.More

Unprofessional and rude staff ... we came in with seven people and were divided into groups because we were with too many people ... Since we came in with seven we did not fit their concept.... I felt ashamed taking my friends here as a...resident from Amsterdam... Shame on youMore

Visited on 8th February of which was very surprised to be asked to wait outside until table became available. Luckily it was dry so we waited. The bar had a good atmosphere with classy feel to it. Once seated the bar man was very friendly...and accommodating. We were asked what type of cocktail we wanted and it was made to order. We both went with a Gin based option and tasted lovely. Complimentary bottle of water was a nice touch. Would recommend booking in advance. Around 1hr is probably about right in terms of time allotted for the bar due to drinks being on the expensive side.More

Visited Tales & Spirits in December 2019. Although you can’t book, we managed to get one of the last tables and had the best evening ever. The tapas bar food was delicious, especially the chicken, katsu prawns & the steamed buns. The cocktails are incredible...- all based on a story and look as good as they taste. Our waiters were so friendly and even told us what cocktails we would and wouldn’t like based on our first order. One of them also sent us a whole list of tourist spots to visit during our time in Amsterdam. Overall, amazing bar & will definitely return when we are next back in Amsterdam!More

This was the first time in over one year that I visited Tales & Spirits. While they had good local footfall during my previous visits during the 2015-2018 period, they seem to now draw mostly tourists from abroad (I'm a local) and fill up almost...immediately after their doors open for service. This increased prosperity unfortunately seems to have gone to the owner's head. He no longer welcomes guests as a service-oriented host, but has instead adopted an unpleasant and arrogant attitude. Indeed, he acted more like a doorman choosing who gets admitted to an overly-hyped nightclub, than as an owner of a small Amsterdam cocktail bar. He seemed entirely ungrateful toward his customers, which is a pity. Albeit the serving staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but the waiting time on getting our cocktails after ordering was close to 20 minutes. This would all be acceptable if the owner didn't come to our table three times in the space of these twenty minutes to complain that our two friends hadn't yet arrived and that he was going to downsize us from our table of four to a table for two. Our friends arrived a few minutes later. Suffice it to say that he ruined our time there with his overbearing and haughty attitude. We're never going back. The positive reviews are not an accurate reflection of the current reality. Simply put, Tales & Spirits no longer deserves to be on the list of Amsterdam top bars. There are far better places to choose from anno 2020!More

No happy hour, however the drinks are so good you don’t mind paying full price. They are also conscious of each drink you have and offer a water bottle with each drink.
