We ate lunch here twice. Both times the bottom on the pizza crust was burned. The cheese on the pizza was great - if only the cook knew how to prepare it. The service was also slow and inattentive. The waitress forgot one of our beverage orders.

It was about 9.45pm when we decided to find somewhere to eat &most of the restaurants had stopped serving. Faced with greasy fast food options, we stumbled upon this little gem &were rewarded! The waitress was lovely &the owner very welcoming despite the fact that they were clearly wrapping up for the night. She moved us to a nice table... More

There are not many outlets with ample variety of cheese. Of the few that do....perhaps only a select few have GOOD TASTING cheese. Cheese factory stands out in its extremely wide variety of tasty cheese. I usually go for the old cheese n always thought that old Amsterdam is the best brand around. ..but aft my visit to the cheese... More

We stayed for lunch which was very pleasant. Unfortunately they are unlicenced so those who craved some red wine with cheese were disappointed. Had the fondue and cheeseboard which was delicious. The shop is great although don't expect supermarket prices as this is more artisan cheese.however you can sample it all!

It's okay. Friendly staff, and menu with stndrd dishes. The lighting is really bright, which sometimes can be bit annoying

Me and my husband dined at the Cheese Factory and I loved the concept of shop and restaurant it looked very promising. Very disappointed we could not get wine with our meal. Once meal arrived it was a disaster. We ordered the selected cheeses for our starter and it was overpriced for what you do get. The pasta was disgusting... More

Food was good, but watch the bill. We were never told that large sparkling water wasn't, included with the lunch special so when they charged us for them we said "I don,t think so". Service was also very poor.

We stopped at the Cheese Factory for breakfast one morning and as expected (based on location and name) found it to be a bit of a tourist trap. The food is decent, but overpriced. The cheese on the other hand is great and my breakfast came with a great sampling of the cheeses sold at the shop.

The first clue should have been that only 3 tables were occupied and no one had food. Second clue was that it took 10 minutes to get water and a soda.Third clue no one took our food order until we asked. Fourth clue--two patrons, obviously regulars, stepped out on the canal dock, right beside the open window where we were... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
