I sought this place out based on reviews. It was early afternoon, and my food was dry, bland and boring. I am not a dessert person, so did not try the sweets -- perhaps that is worth coming for? It was extremely hot inside on a wet, blustery day in late October -- uncomfortably hot. Seats were crates, some with... More

Was lucky enough to stay at an air bnb that included breakfast here. Returned on second trip to Amsterdam. My favorite cafe on my travels through Europe. The breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, fresh squeezed juice and fresh mint tea. Love the cozy atmosphere and great location.

I found this place on TripAdvisor before my first and short visit to Amsterdam and added it to my plan. It really looked authentic and cozy and I wasn't disappointed. The choice of homemade cakes and tarts is amazing along with a variety of sandwiches and fresh juices. The place is really small so If you are lucky enough to... More

Well worth a visit delicious food, we shared salad and savoury pie, followed by a shared pud, more than ample and we do not have small appetites. It does seem to get crowded so you may have to share space.

I tried strawberry crumble, apple pie, lemon curd pie. Lemon curd pie was my favourite but everything I have eaten was very close to perfect. If you want something not sweet, there are different quiches which are also worth trying. I loved the one with wallnuts and mushrooms. Everything is prepared there in front of you at the bar table... If the tantalizing array of delectable baked goods beautifully displayed in their window does not pull you in, then man are you missing out! Yes, it's visually stunning, but there is a mass of flavor in them there wares! Not to mention, the boho kitschy cuteness of the place just adds to the whole experience. We came in for a... More

The service is not the best in the world, but the cakes and the pies definitely deserve a 5 star rating. Chocolate pie, bread pudding, ricotta polenta, whatever you choose, you'll for sure NOT regret it!!

I love love love De laatste Kruimel, The vibe of this place is fantastic. As you walk in you're immediately awe stuck by the two mountains of glorious pastries, cakes and other baked goods in the windows. The french background music sets the vibe along with the wooden pallets everywhere. The fresh juices are so good and the coffee is... More

Had breakfast sitting out the back and even though they managed to screw the order completely (a man was trying to mend their fridge in the middle of the shop), when it finally arrived tasted divine. Between us had a cheese and bacon croissant and raisin roll, orange juice and coffees while watching Amsterdam go to work, quite wonderful.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
