I went 3 times to this place. The first one was cool, good food (a bit expensive) and good atmosphere. The second one was ok, long time to be served and average food. We wanted to give them a last chance but this evening, we waited 1hour to get 2 gnocchi and 1 lasagna. The food was really poor, and... More

This restaurant was a dreadful experience from start to end. When we were giving the menu, the waiter looked annoyed as we were deciding on the wine. The wine was brought to our table but our friend had to to wait for 5 minutes to receive a sparkling water. When I asked if we could order something to eat the... More

This is located in a trendy transitional neighborhood, much like the upper west side of NYC in the 90s--lots of young people and black clothes. I had just finished a meeting and was looking for a place for dinner before getting back to the airport, when my friend and I walked past Pekelhaaring. First impression was luke-warm, but convenient. There... More

It was a Saturday evening in December and I had a great evening here with 5 other friends. We had a spacious table near the entrance along the roadside and enjoyed the wines and the food. As a starter I took the gamba's - delicious - and my choice for the main meal was the tagliatelle with wild boar and... More

Being new to the area, me and my wife wanted to find a nice place to have breakfast/lunch, so we tried this place. It was OK except for the service. Tried to get our bill at the end by asking a waitress. Waited five minutes while she did various other things before we realised she'd forgotten. Asked the barman for... More

Been here a couple of times and it's always a good place to get a bite to eat. Had lunch this time and the tagliatelle with swine ragut was excellent, paired it with a nice red Rioja. Personnel is easy going which made it an enjoyable afternoon in De Pijp.

Visited Pekelhaaring on Monday for my girlfriend's birthday. The food was absolutely fantastic, ordered oysters as antipasti as well as the Riso Nero and tortellini to follow. I was pleasantly surprised by the Riso Nero as it is an unusual dish to find so far away from Italy. The tortellini with wild mushrooms were also nice, however it would've been... More

This is a great neighbourhood restaurant. Not your typical Italian fare, with some unusual dishes, a rustic charm and casual, but friendly and efficient service. So good we went twice during a three day trip as the restaurant was close to our hotel. The staff were very knowledgeable and professional. the wine list had some terrific and unusual wines. My... Neighborhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
