Every time I've been in Amsterdam I've eaten at Nam Kee since I discovered it 12 years ago. It's a bit in a time warp with formica tables covered in plexiglass and the menu is also time warpish. That's why I like it. Prices are low, service is good, and the cooking is old fashioned fine. This is not art... More

We had the best Chinese dinner we have ever had at this restaurant. We love Chinese food and have eaten it in maybe 5 different countries ( unfortunately we have not been in China) and found the food here really the best. We ordered sweet and sour chicken and chop choi beef. Fantastic.

We've been a couple and a baby. The service was bad, unfriendly and unhelpful. We asked for a recommendation and got little advice but no suitable portions for a baby even no plain steamed vegetables which you can find in any Chinese restaurant. Every portion is about 13-15 euro. The peking duck was small and disappointing. A tomato soup turned... More

Very authentic Chinese food. The wonton were AMAZING - possibly the best we've ever had - and we've had many from the wide variety of Chinese restaurants in Sydney. Absolutely highly recommended!

We went to visit this place after reading the positive reviews; however, it didn't match up to what we read. Yes, the decor was authentic with roast meat on the window display and the name with 'Kee' is quite traditional for Cantonese cuisine but they were the only positive about it. We ordered soup noodle with meat. The meat was... More

Nothing special. Ok duck with pineapple. A lot of Chinese people on the restaurant, one of them looked at my dish and apparently approved.

Revisited this restaurant after a few years. We were a little disappointed as our dish came very dry - maybe the chef was having a bad day. The rest of our meal was good. Staff not very friendly but that didn't ruin the experience.

We had sweet and sour pork plus hot and sour soup on visit #1. Pork dish was satisfactory but hot and sour soup was disappointing. Both dishes were under-spiced and soup lacked the sweet/sour tang. We gave it a second chance two weeks later but with sweet/sour chicken and wonton soup made with pork and mushroom wontons. Result was worse.... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
