Travelers' Choice

The Bekeerde Suster is a brewpub in the city centre of Amsterdam, close to the Nieuwmarkt. The brewery is at the back of the pub and is worth watching. If you're Lucky you might be able to see the brewmaster live in action...Besides the brewery we offer another 8 beers on tap and at least 45 bottled from breweries all over the world. We serve a good quality lunch and dinner menu, with some classic dishes.

Absolutely loved it in here! Stopped by chance for some lunch. Got the beer bat with 4 small sample beers and a burger. The beers were great and the food was pretty good too! Fantastic staff who were extremely polite and friendly. They took us on a little visit of the in-house microbrewery and chatted to us about the history of this great place! My only criticism is the burgers were good and I was happy! However I don’t think they were homemade? Think if they did real homemade burgers or even smash burgers with their amazing selection of meats they would be onto a winner. If I ever go to Amsterdam again this place will definitely be somewhere I will be going back to! 👍👍👍

We were wandering the city around dinner time looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon this gem. This is a microbrewery with a cafe attached. The beer was delicious as was the food. My husband enjoyed his fish & chips and I had, hands down, the BEST onion soup I have ever had. The server was helpful and friendly. We went around 6pm on a Wednesday. There were a number of people out front enjoying beers and company, inside was not crowded and it was easy to get seated and served.

We had lunch here on 2 November 2023. Sorry for taking so long to write my review. We arrived just before opening time and were seated immediately. I have a leg issue and was told about the bathroom on the main level. This saved me from having to go up and down stairs to the main bathroom area. We drank a Pepsi Max Small and Sisi Orange Small, both 3,5€. For food, I had the Angus Cheese Burger. Other half had Fish & Chips, both 17,90€. I would have tried some of their beer, but I need a bathroom frequently after drinking beer so I passed! I asked how they cooked their burgers and was told medium well, but they made my medium, which is still more cooked than usual for me. Nice gesture. Other half asked for some of the sauce on side and received such but didn't like it so didn't use but glad it was on side! The fries were plentiful and good but not great. The restaurant remained empty while we were there except for 2 potty-mouthed young ladies a few tables away. Their discussion was about one's visit to a sex show and other's fighting off an aggressive date? The bartender/waiter was very attentive. We were also given free tap water. It was a decent lunch and a place I would return. Great service, decent food....just sorry we had to overhear loud conversation!

A beautiful property with brew kettles but very American furnishings. Bright lights and only the screens with sports matches were missing. We got bread in broken plastic wicker baskets, the sauces in small paper snack bar trays. My lamb chops would be with rosemary and medium rare but they were done without flavor. Of most of the group, the food was lukewarm and far too little. Only those who had chosen Spareribs ate well and the beers taste good.

Four of us ate in this restaurant on Wednesday 9th October. We should have known it wasn't good as there were only a couple of diners. After sitting at our table we waited....... and waited to be served. We had to ask for someone to come to our table. When the waiter arrived he asked what we would like to eat. We said we haven't got a menu. Ordered drinks which arrived quite quickly. We had difficulty ordering food as the waiter could hardly understand any English and said he was new. When the food arrived it was basic. Two of the party had lamb chops. Very plain. A small amount of salad and some chips. I had pork fillet. Again very plain. My friend had ordered satay chicken. It was a gloopy mess. He sent it back. A female waitress offered two free beers. We had ordered a side of onion rings and pepper sauce. The onion rings were overcooked and hard. Actually black in parts. Burnt. The sauce was gloopy and tasted horrible. We told the female waitress and she said that's how they serve these. When the bill came they had taken off the satay dish but were still charging for the side dishes. We refused to pay for them. The female waitress got quite rude. In the end we left the money on the counter and left. My advice is don't eat here.

After waiting an hour and a half for our food, we got cold and wrong food. Afterwards it was another 30 min wait for someone from our party to get her pork tenderloin, clearly cut in 2 to serve faster. Far too expensive for the quality of the food. In addition, the toilets were very dirty

I was offered a table and some minutes later, a group arrived. I was waiting some 10’ for the waitress to come and take my order. Once I ordered (spare-ribs) I was advised that the group had already ordered and I had to wait additional time for my order. I mentioned that I had arrived before the group and all the time I was waiting for the waitress to come. They apologized because allegedly they hadn’t seen me! So I asked them to put my order in priority and not to wait the completion of the entire group. They said they would try…but my dish arrived some 40’ later! The dish itself was less than moderate in quality and taste. Meat was not good and was tasteless. Possibly because I ordered the bbq sauce aside which normally gives some taste to the meat and covers the inferior quality? Last but not least, I asked for a toothpick. The waitress arrived holding an unsealed toothpick in her hands and left it on the table. When I pointed out that normally toothpicks are served either sealed or in a small cup and I can not put in my mouth the toothpick offered, I was advised that this was the last toothpick left and was that’s why it was offered like that!

Full of character and charming, the staff were lovely and the food was a delightful surprise. Stelios was our waiter, friendly and helpful. I’ve never had a more delicious tomato soup, washed it down with an IPA - Lagunitas, even the foam was tasty 😅. I highly recommend.

Heading back to our hotel near Nieuwmarkt we wanted something simple to eat and a drink as we had walked all day in Amsterdam. It was late on a Friday night and everywhere was packed but we managed to get a table upstairs at De Bekeerde Suster even though most people were drinking beer. A cheerful Irish waiter took our order for Fish & Chips and as we were hungry we really enjoyed it in a lively atmosphere of crowds enjoying the beer tasting. Most people seem to like the sociable bench seats at the front where you can sit outside but it was a little quieter and warmer upstairs for eating. This was early March pre-Coronavirus Lockdown of course.

First, a declaration of interest. "Write a review and you get a free beer." Well, I was going to offer up a review anyway, because De Bekeerde Suster is worth knowing about. First, don't do what we nearly did and assume in such a lively location it'll be full. It's cavernous, with tables on different levels. There's a wide range of beers including three of their own, of which the weissbier is outstanding. The food is good solid pub fare at reasonable prices, including great flammkuchen. A place to come back to, with or without the offer of a free beer.

This is the first time we have been here since 2020 since COVID caused some inconvenience to us. We returned here as this was our favourite bar. We love the drink selection which was unchanged and delightful. However, we always loved the freshly baked sharer loaf with their garlic butter and Mayo, but, to our utter disappointment this had been removed from the menu. What an utter travisty…. Overall though it’s a fantastic pub and still remains as one of our firm favourites and will be returning…. Hopefully with the sharer bread and garlic butter back on the menu.

We picked this restaurant thinking that it would have a vast selection of beers to choose from but the selection was very small. My friend had a burger and found it to be quite dry but said her fries were great! I had a flat bread that was huge but undercooked and doughy so...all in all, not the best, not the worst.

Visited on a Thursday night. Fairly quiet so no problem getting a table. Went for the tasting flight - normally 4 beers for €10.95, which I think is expensive. They had a 5th brew available, so for an extra €2.75, I went for that as well. Enjoyed all the beers, the winter special at 11% abv was very strong! Also had a chicken burger. Chicken was good, but deep fried, which I hadn’t expected. Well cooked though. Would definitely visit again

It was absolutely not ok. Apparently taken over a few months ago. We had to wait 1.5 hours for our food. What the brought was below board. There was even one dish forgotten. We had to wait another 20 min for this. I would advise everyone to stay away from here

Don’t go. Black angus burger is NOT good. I get food and i have wait cutlery 10 minutes. Bad customer Service, we order water and never get it. I had to wait 15 minutes for the bill and there weren't even any customers in the restaurant.
