Im happy that I went to Kilimanjaro. Friendly and helpful staff(nice surprise for the Netherlands) really nice flavours and taste. Meat was perfectly cooked. I ate crocodile and antilope for the first time and it was great. Would recommend.

It was a cold and rainy evening in November and I was soaked through. Arriving at the Kilimanjaro I got such a warm welcome, that this circumstances ceased to matter imidiately. The waitress was very helpful in her recommendations. Seeing me putting some work on the table she handed me a beautiful artbook instead and I really enjoyed my time... More

We discovered this on a walk around the neighbourhood where we were staying. It is tiny, but very welcoming inside. The woman who served us was very helpful and recommended we try a mixture of Ethiopian food on a platter for two as we had not previously tried this type of cuisine. A good recommendation. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole... More

Went there at first thinking it was only Ethiopian specialities, it turned out it also proposes African ones (you can eat crocodile !). Very tempting card, nice staff and overall a nice experience in Amsterdam.

Being a restauranteur is not easy so I am always reluctant to be negative. If one is disappointed then we need to question: maybe the chef was off, maybe they were short staffed, maybe their regular supplier let them down, .... We arrived at the Kilimanjaro around 7:30 and finally got our food after 9pm. It is a small restaurant... More

Absolutely delicious! Very unique place with unique African dishes! Really enjoyed my Antilope! The food took a little while. But with good reasons! It gets home cooked on the spot and it worth it! What are you waiting for! Go get some delicious food!

Incredible food, so flavoursome. We were the only ones in there but this place deserves to be full every night. Home cooked food for an amazing price. Walk away from the touristy area and come here!

Not a huge Ethiopian selection, but the food is of top quality. My wife is Ethiopian and agreed the food was great. We ordered kitfo off menu and doro wot. The complimentary veg sides was a yummy touch.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
