Great food matched for vitality by the crockery. We ate outside, there was great service and live music. Be prepared for unusual dishes, if you have a western palate.

The food was ok: tasty, appropriate quantity, nothing outstanding though. The table was clean and the ambiance cosy. The service on the contrary was quite unpleasant. The waitress was grumpy, rude, and when we asked her some more pancakes she looked amused/upset and replied in a very sarcastic tone: "why, are you gonna eat ALL of them?!" (eventually we would... The mixed platter for one was very good and was enough to feed two people. I will definitely go here if I am in amsterdam again. The weird fermented honey wine was also good.

Amazing taste, good price and cozy atmosphere! Especially liked that all the food comes fresh and cooked from the kitchen and the ingredients are authentic!

We only came here as the restaurant we planned to go to was closed and this was nearby, but we weren't disappointed! The decor is great, with lovely bright coloured table clothes, canvases, and tableware. My boyfriend had lamb stew which came with pancakes and an array of sides - when he'd nearly finished all his pancake he was even... More

We had just arrived in Amsterdam and were staying a few blocks away...we were tired and wanted to eat somewhere close. I did a little research and when I stumbled upon a review that included the info that they served both crocodile and antelope, I knew this was the place to try. Indoor and outdoor seating available; small place. Numerous... More

Lovely food, service, setting, ambient live music, crockery...we all loved this restaurant. We sat outside but the inside looked good too. The owner and chef is Ethiopian, the menu features a range of African foods. Each tablecloth, plate and bowl is different; vibrant colours contrast with the canal and pavement. Along the way are a couple of bars and other... More

Im happy that I went to Kilimanjaro. Friendly and helpful staff(nice surprise for the Netherlands) really nice flavours and taste. Meat was perfectly cooked. I ate crocodile and antilope for the first time and it was great. Would recommend.

It was a cold and rainy evening in November and I was soaked through. Arriving at the Kilimanjaro I got such a warm welcome, that this circumstances ceased to matter imidiately. The waitress was very helpful in her recommendations. Seeing me putting some work on the table she handed me a beautiful artbook instead and I really enjoyed my time... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
