Ate here our first night in Amsterdam, mainly due to the proximity to our hotel. We loved it!! Had the tapas w/too many plates to share! The standouts: caramelized onion hummus, grilled sardines, mussels, greek salad w/grilled eggplant (delicious!!!), and empanadas. The house red wine is great and a huge pour! We loved it so much, we went back two more times during our 10 day stay. The tomato soup is wonderful - simple, yet so very flavorful. Again, the Greek Salad is delicious. The service is great, the staff helpful and attentive - even to tourists which we were. Highly recommend reservations - it's very small and quite popular with the locals. The only 'bad' thing about it.....it's in Amsterdam and not our home town! ; )

Pompa is great little spot featuring a Mediterranean menu of Spanish and Italian dishes. You can easily book a table online and the food comes hot, fast and delicious.
The party I was with enjoyed two kinds of Ravioli that was just utter scrumptious goodness and creaminess.
This is not Michelin dining, but it's dependable and good.

We ordered tomato soup, pastas, lamb, calamaris and patatas bravas. Lamb was very hard as if was pre- heated, (€8 for two small pieces), calamari stunk as if they were baked in old oil. Butter served with bread was past its expiry date. Soup was ok, hence one star. If it’s one dish that’s disappointing then I would send it back but none of the ingredients used was fresh. It was a huge disappointment. Just use fresh ingredients.

Very unpleasant experience and disgreeable staff.
We need a place to relax and feed our babies with a plate of pasta. The day before we had a good experience here and we thought to repeat it. I asked for a table and the hospitality was not good for the first moment because the staff was afraid we could occupied a table for just a plate of pasta. Ok, that's fine. I said we would order a bottle of wine, too and we was inviting other friends to join us and have dinner. Waiting for them, we order a plate of pennette with tomato, expressly asking not spicy ( for babies!).
Pasta was so spicy, they was joking us, to the detriment of children. They was so hungry and they can't have dinner because of their avarice! Shame!

From start to finish, a total disaster. The restaurant is nicely presented with internal balcony and wooden staircase. That's where the positives end.
The menu, although vast, gave no options for vegans. Fresh pasta was all with eggs, they explained, as "freshly made". Even the penne I thought?? Weird. Turns out it wasn't all made with eggs and, guess what? NOT fresh either!
So, salad it was. And OMG was it horrible. A mix of fresh and roasted vegetables in a huge bowl. Everything tasted like fish, as the vegetables were probably roasted together with salmon. Yuck!
Extremely expensive, overrated and total waste of time and money.
Bottom line, don't play Italian if you ain't one.

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay. It is a good location for people watching, plus it is a little off the beaten path. I had the Greek salad the first time, which hit the spot when traveling and not getting enough vegetables. My husband had the lasagne. He said it was good, but I didn’t taste it. The owners are very nice. It appears that it is run by a family. Our second visit we stopped by for a snack and drinks. We asked the waitress to bring us hot water, tea bags, and glasses of ice so we could make iced tea. It seems that they only offer bottled iced tea in Amsterdam. It was nice of them to accommodate us.

I have visited the restaurant with my family
Although it was empty the waitress insisted it to sit in a table of two just in case more people come in the restaurant (that’s what she said)
The food was average we order carbonara and bolognese nothing special and overpriced
While I I was eating she came back to ask me if she could take the one table we used

It's always a shame to give a low rating, but a restaurant is 50% kitchen and 50% dining room.
Pumpkin soup heated up and full of pepper, how can you go wrong with it??? Arrived without bread. Decent but messy tuna salad. Good burger and chips.
Confused service, they argue with customers and at a certain point they come to blows. Result: beers not delivered, the owner arguing with the staff and fights with the customers.

Pompa has a 1st rate location, very close to the Museumplein and the big museums in Amsterdam and frequented by many tourists. I am very pleased to say that despite this, it is in no way a tourist trap, but a charming duplex restaurant, serving Mediterranean dishes ( and not only pasta like the outside board implies) of authentic flavours and ingredients e.g. grilled sardines, tuna carpaccio, lambs meat balls, hummus with egg and grilled aubergine and the like. The hummus is exactly as you find it in the Middle East, smooth, lemony and with a touch of warm spices. Service at Pompa is swift and welcoming. A great place for a delicious meal after a visit to one of the museums.

The pasta carbonara was way too lumpy
And there was way too much cheese in the sauce. They also put cheese on top of the pasta which I personally didn't like. The meat was cut into pieces that were way too large. Also the meat was cold and stiff. Never again.

Don't go here! Tourist Trap and more!
This was by far the worst place we visited on our trip. The food is passable, but that's were it ends. The staff (young males) couldn't be less engaged in their work. We received a half-hearted welcome, followed by where not(!) to sit. Then they just put down the plates and cutlery for ourselves to place and walked away with no comment. Even more, our plates were still dirty. The prices are also way to high for what you get, we visited Michelin restaurants on our stay with more for less. Finally wanted to pay and were ordered downstairs to do and didn't even get asked if we wanted the receipt. Seriously...

This is a lovely little local ‘bistro’ on the edge of the city close to Vondel Park. We arrived without a reservation and they did all they could to find us a table. Once we were seated we ordered from a fairly short and compact menu, but with enough choice to keep everyone happy. Amongst the choices we made were lasagna, which my friend said was very tasty, fish and chips, which didn’t go down as well and chicken breast in a spicy tomato sauce. This was very good with a nice heat to the sauce. We had deserts and I think these lost a bit in translation. The two chocolate soufflés were really fondant cakes, however, they were well cooked and not a crumb remained. We all really enjoyed our visit and would certainly return.

We had a delicious dinner at Pompa--so good that we came back a few days later for lunch. Among the dishes we tried are the Serannoham, bread, garlic butter, olives, green salad, fish and chips, spaghetti Bolognese, and a pasta dish with penne that was a special for the day. House wine is very good and the ice cream desserts are excellent. The restaurant was busy but service was good. It is a place to enjoy the food and relax after a day in busy Amsterdam.

Not a restaurant I will go to again. 1 main course way too salty, the other mainly pasta, pasta and pasta. But that was surmountable. We had made a reservation and could choose from a few tables. We were early, 5:30 PM. When we had something to drink we heard in the background that someone wanted 1 table for 6, we were at a table for 2. We were removed with an excuse (yes, there is someone in a wheelchair, NO wheelchair was seen). I noted that we had been given this table, but the owner said that the waiter had no say in the matter and that she decided that. So we moved up, so that our table could be placed against 1 of four. Roughly treated, lied to and mediocre quality. So don't do that

If you don’t respect guy in wheel chair don’t come back. His wheel chair was put a side and we lifted him in a normal chair so he could have a good night. Don’t talk about stuff you don’t know. Thanks

Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
