About
neL Amstelstrav 12 We had been looking for Cafe Jenevre, but it has been replaced with neL. I’m not sure if they ever get American tourists - this was definitely a local place - but comparable to nice local places in the US. It’s located in an open square - there’s a playground near by and a large open patio. The inside is small, but larger than other places we’d seen in Amsterdam. Food was decent - they serve bread before the meal (I only mention this because it was the first time it had happened on our trip!). I had the neL salad, which was good, but very oily (like the olives here, they just drench them in oil). My dad had the burger - we haven’t been overly impressed with any meat on this

We had an adequate meal here - nothing fancy but quite acceptable. Friendly staff, small menu, nice location.

The name Nel reminds me of a nice old Dutch lady, and the location of Nel is very central; in the lovely Utrechtsestraat area on the Amstelsquare (filled to the brim with people on Kingsday!) and close to the wild & loud Rembrandtsquare. I went...More

Having eaten a good lunch here a couple of years ago we decided to try an evening meal. The salmon with pasta was cut from a huge fresh fillet and was cooked to perfection. The whole dish had a great oriental taste but the salmon...More

We were looking for a place to have a light lunch after a walk around the area. This was perfect. A bit chilly outdoors under the trees in the shade for someone who just arrived from San Diego. We each had a blond Grimbergen. We...More

When we arrived (ok, we had no reservation), we were discouraged by the serving staff as they had two large parties and anticipated delays in serving other guests. Which might seem fair in other circumstances but they seemed somehow to resent our decision to come...More

We were referred by a tour guide to this lovely restaurant because it was close to the music festival and we had a great experience. The food was amazing and the service was excellent as well.

DO NOT GO HERE. I have lived in Amsterdam for almost 30 years, and this is absolutely the worst place I have ever been. The waiter (a darkskinned man with dark curls) intimidated us several times, and was extremely hostile. Another waiter dropped cutlery on...More
