Another recommendation in my guidebook - I am not a vegetarian but as I felt my diet in the last week lacked goodness I thought this would be the perfect option to get some vegetables in my system. I love the street this restaurant is on (Frans Halsstraat), very cool suburb location (near Heineken factory) - lots of restaurants and... More

This place is absolutely amazing! All of the dishes that I have tried here have been exceptional and original. The menu changes according to the seasons so there is always something new to try. Wine options are good too and they have organic beers. Everything is vegetarian and there are many vegan and gluten free options available. The service is... More

My son, husband and I had a great meal at De Waaghals. Lots of flavours in the dishes. Interesting desserts. Lovely real food, not the 1960s hippie fare. We will definitely visit again.

Very basic vegan food with very little creativity or thought gone into the dishes. Very thing was very clean and fresh but the food was just very lacking. Staff were very indifferent

The food was disappointing. I hate to give a veggie restaurant a poor review. But many of the average reviews of this restaurant are spot on regarding the food. There were other diners who were clearly enjoying their meals but I honestly have to say this meal was not very tasty or well presented and certainly not good value. Staff... More

After a long walk to arrive, I was somewhat disappointed with this overpriced cuisine. I ate their house special which was white asparagus cooked in butter, served with roasted cherry tomatoes, broad beans, a carrot and mash. Although relatively generous in size, their was no effort in the cooking. It was akin to a lazy home cooked meal. Nothing wrong... More

My wife and I are vegetarians and we ate dinner at De Waaghals. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was also very good. Even if you are not vegetarian, give this place a try. You will not be disappointed

Feta Cheese terrine that tasted like a block of feta cheese, bean stew that tasting like the sauce came from a packet with polenta that just didn't go with it. Salad flooded with dressing straight from a bottle. Such a disappointment, won't be going back there again. Trying another vegetarian restaurant tomorrow evening, hope it's better than this one and... More

Good vegetarian and vegan food very near the 3 main museums of Amsterdam. Starters, main and deserts all wholesome and tasty. People are friendly, but not going out of their way. Very relaxed atmosphere. Lot of locals eat here. Lovely big fat cat, as a seperate attraction.

Neighborhood Profile
De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.
