We are from Southern California, so we are frequent consumers of Mexican food. Although we do enjoy authentic, traditional mexican food, it's nice to have a different spin on it every now and again. La Margarita utilizes interesting, different ingredients giving a Mexican flare to various fruits, seafood and other fresh ingredients also splashed in with the traditional meats. They... More

Although we waited a long time on our meal, when it did arrive it was delicious. Quite pricey though, 2main courses 1 sweet and 2 beers was 51 euros.

Welcoming, friendly place. Nice cosy atmosphere with good food. Nice smile from the lady as we walked in and took us to our table. My hubby had enchilada's, and I had chimichanga's, both dishes were really nice.

I had the enchiladas, and they were decent enough. However, two enchiladas and a mango margarita cost me over $30. Mexican food shouldn't be this expensive, especially when I can get the same quality at Chipotle for a fraction of the price. I'm sure the terrace seating would have been lovely if it were open.

Great service, great food. Sociable host who gave us celebratory stag do tequila until we could take no more. Half way through our trip and thinking of going back again, even if just for the cocktails.

Food was not bad, but there is so much to get better. Just one person in this place speak Spanish and was not a Mexican or latinamerican guy. How is suppose that an Mexican restaurant has not a Mexican?. Nachos was a mix of many things and nothing to do with the real Mexican Nachos. The meat was the best,... More

Great little place just off the Dam, the food price is around 17 euros for a main and 7 or 8 euros for a cocktail so a bit on the dear side but the food is absolutely fantastic. I had the burrito with chicken and beef and although the service that night was ultra slow I forgot all about that... More

The food was terrible, very bland not a spice in sight. We both got different meals but the result was the same. Would never visit this restaurant again.

Description
A little background about us....La Margarita, Mexican Cafe Restaurant, by the regulars just called "the Mexicans!" Has been a landmark restaurant for more than thirty years. Full of Mexican warmth, buzzing with a crazy Latin atmosphere, it really is hard to believe you are in the centre of Amsterdam, yet here , you can let your imagination go wild and enjoy many specialties from the Yucatan region of Mexico. Various delicious dishes like Fajita's, Taco, Burrito's, Tournedos Ranchero and Marinated Ninos Eros adorn our menu. Naturally we also serve Mexican beers, Margaritas and other cosmopolitan cocktails to enjoy with these dishes. You can end your dinner with a tasty dessert or, for the true enthusiast, a strong Mexican coffee with Kahlua, Tequila and Cream! But, La Margarita is more than just a restaurant, it's so flexible! Atmospheric enough to provide a perfect cosy dinner for two yet supple enough to cater for weddings, other receptions and groups of 10 or more at a table. A maximum of 98 people can be catered for "a la carte" if you wish, or, you can choose from a selected menu to suit your needs. We also offer a varied monthly menu from just 25,00 Per Person. For people requiring a gluten-free diet, we always have at least ten dishes on the menu that are gluten free. If you fancy a dish on the menu, which is not gluten free, our chef will gladly adjust the ingredients for you. To find us - Our address is Langebrugsteeg 6, between Rokin and Nes.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
