Me and my wife were doing a bike trip and arrived in Maastricht by the end of the day. Long story short, the first place we found open that was serving dinner was the Cafe Sjiek. I asked if there was anything on the menu originally from Maastricht and the waiter suggested me Zoervleis. Just loved it. Plain and simple... More

Sitting at a communal table around 10, a few friends and I headed in for a nice dinner. We tucked directly into a main course each, with beef cuts takings precedent. My Entrecote was quite nice, as well as as the house wine. The food altogether was good, nothing spectacular. But if anything, the main take away is the busy... More

Nice little cafe with good food served on a beautiful terrace as soon as weather allows. Inside very small but cosy. Local dishes, small menu but enough choice. Place where locals meet.

A bartender and my landlord both suggested Cafe Sjiek, mentioning that the restaurant was popular with the locals. I ordered the lamb plate and my friend ordered the rabbit. His looked great and I really enjoyed the lamb. I will come back and next time I am going for the horse.

We would not find this place if locals would not recommend it us! At first we were suprised by crowd in there but stuff can easily manage it and make every client happy :-) It`s not a big place. We have ordered typical dutch dish with house wine and it was very good choice! For sure we`ll be back :-)

The place is very close to the city centre, but still just a bit of a walk away from everything else. Not so big, but rather cosy, very friendly staff, good atmosphere. The horse meat was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best dishes I've had during my 3 week stay in Maastricht (and I've tried a lot of good stuff...).... More

Very busy and generally gruff welcome from staff. We got wine and oysters and pate and ate while waiting. The atmosphere is good. But... The two mains we had were grim. The horse was slopped in brown sludge I guess to try to give it a flavour. The Jugged Hare was in the exact same sauce. Do they just use... More

Nice and genuine restaurant in the heart of Maastricht. We went for the chestnut soup, a classic here, and the mussels. Excellent service and wines. If you like venison this is also the place to come. Reasonable prices too. We liked it a lot
