This restaurant has been in Maastricht for as long as I can remember. I've been numerous times with both friends and family (usually a mixture of both). It is a bustling cafe which has a friendly atmosphere and you're pretty much guaranteed a good hearty meal. The crowd is usually made up of regular who all know one another. The... More

Although they have great, fresh, homely food and a great atmosphere -for couples-(if you like small, busy pubs) I would def not recommend it with children. They advertise as being child friendly, but we could not enter with our buggy (no space) and they did not have a high chair.

Really, reviewing this place is kind of pointless, since it is such a success and they really should not care a tiny bit about what some random dude says on the internet. If you happen to be in Maastricht, you must go to this place. Do not turn around when you see the place packed full. It will always be... More

Cafe Sjek was recommended by our host - the Mabi Hotel - as well as by others. We were not sure what to order and were surprised when our waiter not only gave us tastes of wines, but also of one of the stews he recommended. It turned out he was also a sommelier and matched a wine to our... More

This was the first place I had dinner while visiting Maastricht and also the first place where I tasted horse meat ( Although very interesting and nicely cooked, I love horses so I will pass this dish in the future). The place is vibrant, the food is well prepared, the wine is great and the people are very friendly. It each... More

We chose Cafe Sjiek for our family lunch. A nice place in general, but without excelling at any particular aspect. It took them a while to have our dishes served, although there weren't many customers, which was an issue with the kids. The stew (Maastricht Zoervleis) they serve definitely worth trying, but the pasta were a bit over-boiled for my... More

The place is awesome, the food is brilliant (take the local sour horsemeat specialty), the wine is great and the people are very friendly. It was so busy, we had to wait ~45mins, worth every minute.

We arrived at five and were seated outside. Good selection of wines. Great bread. Excellent service. Mixed anti pasta was good. Portions generous.

Cafe Sjiek is expensive, the food is not special, and they let you wait because they do not take reservations.
