In these Corona times it is fantastic that restaurants like Klein Paramaribo are still available for takeaway. Hence one can occasionally eat something quite different from the home cooked grub. Their Nasi and Bami Surinamese style tasted pretty good and was a very generous helping...indeed. Peanut sauce really tasty but then a surprising small portion relative to the rest. Overall very much recommended!More
Found this place on a stroll in the center center of Assen. Being from the country i had some expectation of home (on vacation) but the friendliness of the people from suriname was not present at the cashier. We order a samosa n waited over...20minutes. We asked a question about the country beer and got barely an answer of a no.
No service or welcoming atmosphere
The samosa were decentMore

For those who are not familiar with Suriname, it is a meltpot of cultures, mainly coming from India (Hindu), Indonesia (Java), Creol (Africa), Jews, Chinees and Dutch.
My wife is from Suriname and we went here on a local tip, as the restaurant had won...an award. To win this as a "themed" restaurant is not so easy, so expectations were high.
We were a party of 4 and ordered different dishes.
The startes we took were excellent of very fine quality. Perfect Sato soup, Peanut soup and Barra. Just as good as in Suriname if not better. These were the highs.
Where it went down hill was on the main courses.
3 of us ordered Indonesian style Food and this was a very very big mistake.
The Food was just poor, bland, barely any flavour and absolutely not a reference to the excellent kitchen of Indonesia or Suriname.
How is it possible that a kitchen goes from such high to such lows? No idea why it scores such high Reviews, I think there is a lot to do to deserve those.
My daughter however ordered the roti chicken (never go for the fillet, always go for the meat of the bone).
The roti was another high. It was one of the best ever eaten. super tasty, excellent flavor and a good portion of pepper. What a treat!!!!!
As we were so dissapointed with many of our mains, we skipped the dessert menu.
High ups and very low downs in this restaurant.
It is obvious that the cook has a hindustanian back ground. I strongly recommend to go here, but only order the hindustanian menu items, roti's are excellent.
Stay away from anything else it is very dissapointing.
Service was OK, but nothing special to write home about.
For the quality of food and service the individual menu items are too expensive, especially in a place like Assen.
It may surpise you, but we would go again, on that occassion we would only order roti's. That would be the last change though to recouperate.More
I came to this place but it was empty although not closed. By saying "empty" I mean there were no staff in the restaurant except for the chef (?) and the lady who wash dishes. These people tried the best hosting me but.... The food...was ok though.More

While I wouldn't come here for the wine menu, beer goes better with roti anyway. We tried the shrimp (gamba's) roti and the cod (bakkeljauw) roti and both were absolutely DELICIOUS! Now I've not yet been to Suriname, but I've had roti dozens of times...(both in restaurants and in peoples' homes) and this was certainly as good or better than any I've had before. Watch out for the hot pepper sauce (sambal) though--I'm pretty sure it's made from Madam Jeanette so "just a drop will do you" (and I do mean just a drop or less per bite, LITERALLY!). The only downside: the roti was microwaved (and not fresh, or steamed), so the edges were a little dried out and crispy. Otherwise it was a perfect meal!More
Like many others we were here on the AH action, where you get a second diner for free.
But unlike other restaurants you do not get much choice. Actually, as we later found, you get a choice of the two cheapest items on the menu...for every course.
Weird, because I would expect that a restaurant would like to offer the best options to new guests.
The choice of food seems to be a mix between Chinese and Indian dishes. In any case, since we were with the two of us, we tried both options in the action menu. Both were not very impressive, both tast-wise and presentation-wise.
All negative? No, the service was very good. Attention to details, courteous, and overall good. I also did like the interior decor and the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Would I recommend it or go back? No.More
