Was introduced to this place by a German colleague at work. Artfully hidden away in the old town of Zurich. Nothing posh, but with a lot of character, reminded me of the back room canteens in a restaurant. So what does that mean? well ... quality food made for you personally and brought to your table, super tasty and full... More

The restaurant is packed full of charm, being one of the oldest in Zürich. It's cosy in winter and has a cute seating area outside in summer. The food is delicious and usually comes in generous portions. The bratwurst with onion sauce and rösti is something I've had many times there for dinner and it's always excellent. The staff are... Excellent and friendly service. Food was first class but pricey. The food is well prepared. The restaurant is located in aside street in the old town.

A Swiss friend said we should try rosti and Geschnetzeltes (veal in mushroom cream sauce) and we finally found a great version in this excellent restaurant. Such a rich dish could be awful without great ingredients and technique, but the meat was tender, gravy full of flavor and not heavy even with dollops of creme fraiche (I think) on it.... More

The place is small and it might be a wise thing to book a table . The food was ok, but I would say they should put more spice to it. I tested goat cheese with figs and then tartar steak - both ok, but really blend. We were group of 4 adults and 2 children. The bill was around... More

Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. We were trying to get into another local restaurant and when we couldn't, we managed to get a table here instead. So glad we did. The food is excellent, can't comment on whether it is traditional Swiss fare but it appeared that most of the other diners were local. There is a dear old lady helping... More

Based upon other reviews and the fact that this resturant was literally feet from our hotel, the hotel helmhaus (btw which is excellent) we decided to give it a try on our first night in Zurich. In short the food is just excellent. The quality and taste is well above average, the presentation is good. Our only negative comment was... More

We happened across this restaurant as it was near our hotel and it seemed cozy. We ate outside and I had the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes mit Rösti (SFr. 38.50) which is an authentic veal meal with what might be considered hash browns. It was delicious. The restaurant is expensive but it is in Zurich old town.

It's not swish or sophisticated, but it's the real thing, and it hasn't changed much since I used to visit as a student a million years ago.
