I always enjoy being at the Restaurant Krone.
It is a beautiful old house on Badenerstrasse in Altstetten, with tiled stoves, beautiful garden and a wine cellar that can be used for aperitifs for groups.
The dishes are a feast for the eyes and often amaze me with the combination of flavours.
I had "Tafelspitz" with risotto, vegetables and a sorrel-hazelnut-vinagrette: delicious!
In addition to the enjoyment, I know that I am also doing something good, because the Krone is one of the restaurants of the "Stiftung Arbeitskette", a foundation that offers young people and adults the chance to (re)enter the job market.

We went on Jan 26 to celebrate a birthday. We did not say that when we booked the table, but we let it slip at the end of the dinner in our broken German, and our waiter brought us a complimentary brownie!!!
We pre-ordered a bottle of sparkling wine which was amazing. The whole menu was mouthwatering, extremely beautiful in the dish as well as tasty and balanced.
The real star of this restaurant is the service, every waiter that helped us was so focused and wanted to do their best.
If you want amazing food, for a fair price and supporting a restaurant that does something good for the community, Krone is for you.

We visited for the first time last week and this quirky place with delicious food did not disappoint. We all ordered the tasting menu - the one member of our group who is vegetarian thought the flavors and creative presentation of his food was excellent. My favorite dish was a fish in a creamy sauce with edamame and spinach. Our charming server spoke excellent English. We noted that he and several other servers were people with Down Syndrome or otherwise differently abled. And they, like all the staff worked supportively to make our meal an enjoyable experience. It seemed like a friendly neighborhood space with friends, family, and a dog all in attendance. We saw a lot of food items delivered to other tables that we want to try on our next visit, so we will probably order a la carte and off the wine list. Oh, and we will visit in warmer weather so that we can take advantage of what looks like a lovely outdoor patio!

Our last night of a break in Zürich and we decided to try here. They seemed surprised we hadn't made a reservation but there appeared to be plenty of free unreserved tables.
We were served by a multitude of waiter/teases who seemed flustered by trying to sort out a bottle of corked wine at the next table. All staff were pleasant and smiled widely.
The menu does not offer a huge range of choices. We both forewent a starter and chose beer battered lake fish with vegetables.
The fish portion was huge - 3 large pieces which were, if anything, overcooked. Batter brittle and hard on the teeth. The potato - duchess coated in almond crumb was top drawer. The veg - 3 small squirts of purée and thinly sliced fennel bulb and rocket leaves were soaked in olive oil which together with deep fried fish and tartare sauce made the meal quite fatty on the tongue.
At SFr30 a portion we didn't feel it offered good value for money, except in terms of quantity which we found odd for a restaurant positioning itself at the upper end in the neighborhood. Mineral water was SFr9 for a litre bottle.
Not sure we will return.

spent a most enjoyable evening there with my son.
Excellent food with seasonal fresh and varied ingredients. We enjoyed some intense and original flavours.
My first course was a marinated zander with beetroot and black walnut and house made cream cheese. An excellent start. I loved the fish and I adored the rich and dark flavours and textures of the beetroot and the black nut. The slightly sour freshness of cream cheese contrasted the the beetroot and black walnut in a lovely way and highlighted the various ingredients by doing so.
My main course was a braised ossobucco with a potato strudel - both again comforting in its rich and velvety teamwork of dark and light colours, textures and flavours. I loved the slightly tart-and tangyness of the parsley root that set again an invigorating accent to the dark and comforting flavours as described above.
The dessert a light mousse of chocolate and red cabbage in a shell that tasted like a linzertartelet (cinnamon, red currant, nuts etc.) was a surprise combination of flavours I have never had before. Again it was the teamwork of all the ingredients that made it so special.
Beside - the Prosecco they served was outstanding and the selection of wines on the card was small but very good.
Last but not least: All that bliss in a beautiful house and served by a congenial hosting crew. Well done!

Although it was a sunny evening, the wind current was very strong blowing the parasols and table linens away, we got seated in their outdoor patio and it didn’t seem that the indoor dining was an option. The menu is small but good options to choose from. The dishes were thoughtfully presented and some starters such as beef tartar and cold vegetable soup are definitely worth savouring. The steak was palatable served with very tasty chips, the salmon was nicely poached at the top but a bit too raw at the bottom to my personal taste. Our waiter tried to keep a good standard of service and was very attentive. I only learned later that the Restaurant supports great community cause and that is very admirable!
We didn’t get to try the desserts as the wind was getting stronger after the dawn so a good excuse to come back on our next trip to Zurich.

This is a very old, traditional place in Altstetten, one of Zürichs districts. The food is not cheap but very creative and tasty. The service is friendly and efficient. They also support some handicapped employees working in the service area. Another good reason to visit the place.

I showed up without Reservation, and I was lucky enough to get the last table.
The menu is limited, and the restaurant only served meals in the courtyard.
I had a glass of white wine and pork Cordon bleu. The pork was accompanied by a warm potato and cucumber salad. It was delicious.
I give three stars only because I was not offered bread and my dish was still expensive. In addition, I asked for tap water, which was charged 3CHF. It seemed exaggerated.
So I recommend the restaurant, because it is a good cause, but be prepared to pay.

We arrived for dinner just as rain drizzled on a cold night in Zurich. After ascending a flight of steps on the outside of the building, we entered the hallway leading to the restaurant guestroom.
Greeted by a friendly lady, we were shiwn to our reserved table. The white tablecloth and a well-lit hall showed us that it was the food that would please. Tables were well spaced and the walls were authentic aged wood. From starters to mains to dessert, my family of three were delighted with the Swiss cuisine, all well balanced and plated.
This is something worth returning to. Well-recommended.

The food is delicious and the charity is great. I’ve been at least once a week this summer and always get the toscana bread salad (delicious). This last visit, one of the servers (Thomas) took the time to show me around the building, including the wine cellar and various rooms inside. Thank you Thomas for taking the time!!
Highly recommend Krone. You go for a great meal but leave with a lovely memory and feeling that brings you back!

When looking for a cozy restaurant with artisanal cooking and a good selection of wines, the Krone was already on the list of favorites in the collection of ideas before the trip.
The numerous positive reviews were fully fulfilled on site, from the telephone reservation to the farewell.
A small, creative menu leaves little to be desired. The attentive service, which is almost entirely provided by people with disabilities, makes the guest feel welcome.
An all-round enjoyable evening that leaves nothing to be desired.

After our club meeting we had lunch together. Since the participants' wishes varied widely, we were faced with the situation that the lunch menu did not have enough choice for some of us. The Krone service team understood this and managed to create an additional menu so that everyone was ultimately completely satisfied with their lunch.

The restaurant is run by a foundation and 80% of the staff are disabled (you can tell, but it's not a bad thing... on the contrary).
The menu is therefore very small... but the food on offer is very fine. The interior design is historic, very well maintained and cozy... and when the weather is nice there is a beautiful garden terrace.
I (we) would eat there again anytime.

A sunny day, we had a reservation and were given a very friendly welcome. The garden was well attended. The choice on the lunch menu is (fortunately) limited to 4 menus. Soup or salad included.
We chose the carrot salad with nuts and it was very good. Not over-seasoned, neither too sweet nor too sour, beautifully arranged on a little rocket. The beef tartare was also a visual delight. It was very subtly seasoned. The kitchen could have been a bit bolder.
But salt and pepper were brought to our table on request.
In any case, the service was always exemplary and friendly. The recommended Räuschling was a perfect accompaniment to this pleasant stay in the Krone. We would be happy to come back in the evening and say thank you, respect and keep it up.

incredibly charming restaurant in the district of altstetten in the city of zürich. (approx. 15 minutes by transport from the center, but definitely worth the trip through this charming town). in the summer also outdoor dining in the back yard. menu contains delicious traditional as well as 'modern' dishes for all tastes (inkl. vegetarian/vegan). very nice people making sure your experience is delightful. (plus underground parking garage for those arriving by private car.)
