we called in the morning for 18 people... so they proposed us and arranged a selection of dishes to share. The food was wery good, inventive, surprising, generous ! That sort of creativity makes one happy! of course you need the time for the experience ! We all had a lovely time with a visit to the pottery, and a coffee tasting! we shall go back next year during our next winter holidays in zermatt.... GO just GO Debbie & Christian

We stumbled across Areloid yesterday lunchtime and the food and service were so great that we made the journey up to the Restaurant again tonight for their Wednesday evening raclette tasting night. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was just fantastic and the staff and chef were so friendly and made us feel so welcome and at home. A real gem and now my absolute favourite restaurant! Thanks so much guys.

Marian and Iris are top class hosts and easy to talk to. It was a sunny summer afternoon, great craft beer and lemonade, succulent shareable vegi food, V60 Ethiopian brewed for me, large selection of home roasted specialty coffee. I just recommend. Keep it up :)

This was my second visit to the Aroleid restaurant, my previous visit was two years ago when I had a great lunch and was even shown the ceramics workshop at the back of the building by a friendly member, who gave me a small ceramic disc with the Matterhorn etched on it. He told me, we give this to customers as a small gesture of appreciation and to wish they come back again in the future. It was such a lovely memory, I decided to stop by again for lunch on this trip. I wish I hadn't! When I arrived there were several empty tables on the outside terrace, which were all set-up nicely for lunch with cutlery, napkins and menus and glass screens to protect from the sun. A couple who had arrived before me were asked by a waiter if they had a reservation, to which they replied they didn't, but were immediately given a table on the terrace. As the waiter led the couple to their table, I was greeted by a waitress, to whom I asked if I could have an outside table, but was told 'There are no tables for one person on the terrace'. She then continued 'You can sit in another terrace we have for one person if you like'. I was nonplussed but said that would be OK, but was shown to an empty side terrace, that had no customers and no tables, just a long wooden shelf attached to the terrace wall with a handful of stools. There was no cutlery, napkins or menus, so it didn't seem as though it was intended for dining. Also, sitting at the bench meant facing directly into the strong midday sun with no glass screens for protection. I felt like a second class diner and asked if I could be seated in the other terrace. The waitress this time informed me all the tables were reserved, and that I could sit inside the restaurant if I liked. I decided there was no other option and ordered French onion soup at 18CHF and a cappuccino at 6CHF, which for a total of 24CHF is an expensive lunch just for a bowl of soup and coffee. The waiter brought the soup with bread and butter, but I was not given a butter knife and had to ask for one. I also had to ask the waitress for a napkin. The waiter then argued with the waitress in front of me that I could have been given a table on the terrace by re-arranging a couple of tables, but she said 'No, he was happy to sit inside'. To add insult to injury the cappuccino was stone cold when it arrived and I had to ask for another one. I finished my soup and coffee and left but couldn't help notice there were still plenty of empty tables on the terrace. I was still smartly from this experience the rest of the day, which I put down to the restaurant treating solo diners differently. This was in complete contrast to when I had dinner at the Spycher and Stockhorn restaurants, where I was treated with courtesy and respect. I only give two stars, as at least the waiter was friendly and someone from the kitchen wished my a nice day when I was leaving. This was the only disappointment on an otherwise excellent week's holiday. Sadly the nice memory of my first visit has been tarnished.

Really disappointed- we booked well in advance but we still put in the building rather than piste facing. The first waiter had to be chased twice to take our order for drinks then disappeared! The next waiter tried to be more helpful but didn’t really explain that the menu is sort of tapas but doesn’t work as the menu is confusing. What we ordered tasted good but unfortunately terrible service and a lack of explanation of the menu meant that our last days lunch was really disappointing when there are much nicer restaurants to go to at a much lower price . WOULDN’T RECOMMEND

We were lucky to experience the Aroleid Focus pop-up restaurant and really had a great time. The menu was offering a good variety of food, with original dishes from meat to fish, pasta and salad, the ones we tried were all very good and the service was excellent. We are looking forward to visiting the actual Aroleid restaurant next year when restaurants are all open again!

We book a evening dinner at this place which appears to be called „one of the best in zermatt” , but we decieded (thanks god!) to chceck it earlier on the way back from skiing as it is situated just by the slope. Mybe they have a good chef (2points is for taste) .. but one hour waiting time for orzo&beans is a joke ! Staff in chaos , no afterthoughts whatsoever . Restaurant situated on the hill, way outside of the city , when asked about possibilities of transport they say „you can take a taxi” (which is 80CHF!) C’mon maybe if you had gordon ramsay it would be worth the money , but i doubt it …

We saw Aroleid from the hill as we were descending to Furi. We looked it up online and saw the great reviews. Yay! We were hungry and tired. We saw the sign outside saying grilled meats. Yay! We love grilled meats. We got seated. No grilled meats today, it’s drizzling out so no fire. Ok. Disappointed but that’s life. So everything looks great and we order duck. Yay! We love duck. And we order sourdough bread with local butter. The duck comes. Drowning in hoisin sauce. The bread never comes because after a long while we ask about it and the waiter says they only had one piece left or they didn’t bake it that day or whatever. But don’t worry, he wouldn’t put it on the bill. Ok……. What he did put on the bill is an 8chf carafe of water. We did ask for a carafe of tap water, which is a standard offering anywhere in Switzerland. And when one asks for a carafe (vs a bottle), it’s understood to be free. The waiter never mentioned the price. It costs 8chf bc they use some special filter for glacier water… laced with gold leaf, I guess. Overall, re the food, with the two dishes we got (hoisin duck and a pastrami sandwich), everything on the plates was complicated. The food compositions had so much going on, so many different ingredients and flavors (did I mention the drowning in hoisin?) that what started out as an eclectic and good meal became a struggle to finish bc it was like an overload of flavors but not in a really delicious way. They just seem to be trying too hard to be fancy and forget to adhere to the KISS principle. Maybe it’s better with the grilled meats. And also wanted to mention that the crisply fried rice cakes were very good.

Hello Thank you for the feedback - the Fire ban in the entire canton sadly means we are unable to grill - sorry about that but that's out of our control. Mostly all mountain restaurants charge for water as standard, as it costs for the filtering, glass, time, etc. I hope you can understand, Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the dishes, bizarrely they are our best sellers and we've had no complaints so far - we will take your feedback on board and keep moving forward. Best,

We have spent several days hiking around Zermatt, our breakfasts and dinners have been served at Aroleid restaurant. Chef Marián pampered us the whole time with great tasting dishes that have also been nicely presented. This is absolute must if you are in Zermatt.

My friends and I went to Arolied for breakfast and enjoyed it so much we ended up staying until mid afternoon! Their own brand coffee and hand made ceramics really add to the experience and the food is top quality. Lovely setting and great service. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Zermatt.

Cannot speak highly enough of the food and service here, definitely the best we have had in Zermatt. Food is outstanding with the burrata starter and the haddock main being the stand outs for us. Although not cheap at about ÂŁ70 a head for 2 courses, a drink and coffee it is excellent value compared to the mediocre food we have had for the same price in some restaurants in Zermatt. Well worth a visit.

Having been eating in Zermatt for the last 30 years we have always been more than satisfied with the exceptional places to eat, after our 1st visit Aroleid is 100% on our list! We had a beautiful lunch...in fact it was spectacular. The staff were so helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was great. We were a large table and between us we sampled many dishes. Some of our favourites were the malakoff, the croquettes, lamb and polenta was amazing and the fish in the creamy sauce was delicious! Cannot wait to visit again!!!!

We went thinking it would be good since somehow they received a Michelin star, but boy will be wrong. The service was terrible we waited at least 30 mins just to get a drink. We finally got to order our food I got the Caesar salad with chicken which there was FAR too much dressing on the salad and did not taste fresh the chicken to add extra to pay there was hardly any. My friend ordered the lamb and it was meant to be nicely braised but this was dry and tough the polenta was thick like a paste. The atmosphere of the place could have been more clean the toilets weren’t very clean. Was extremely disappointed. I would not recommend.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants on the mountain in Zermatt. The chef runs a very efficient restaurant with great staff. The food and wine pairing is right on point - just relax and let them bring the wine. Had the daily special “Coq au Vin” and it was exceptional Long may it continue Marián, Jade and all the super staff xx

The best part was the home made bread and the coffee. Service was really friendly but not very professional. Did not clean the table after removing dishes, did not pour the wine after the first glass. Wine glasses dirty. Food was so so, I do not understand the hype about this sharing concept.... I will not go back.
