We had eaten in this restaurant some years ago and have found place this year. They gave us a very nice table and we ate good lamb. A good choice.

Disclaimer: We did not get to eat there, so my experience is based solely on the contact (or lack thereof) with the restaurant. I contacted Le Gitan on 2 occasions leading up to a recent trip to Zermatt, and then finally stopped by the restaurant when we arrived in Zermatt. I had written an email, as well as filled out... We are so glad we found this on Trip Advisor and also that we booked a week or so in advance as it is very busy - rightly so! Great ambience with imaginative separation of tables and friendly, helpful staff. We were a table of four and all of our meals, cooked over coals, were delicious. Well worth a visit.... More

Zermatt can be loud, it can be busy, but if you request a booth by the door you'll find peace. The staff acts in a familiar fashion that could throw off those into pomp or rigid social structure, but I found it to be refreshing and helpful when choosing our meal and enjoying it. Outside of dining alone I'd recommend... More

The grilled lamb is exceptional here and the service is excellent. Wait until you try the potato gratin - it's delicious. My teenage sons could not get enough of it! We ate here two years ago and it is just as good. So much so that we dined there twice on our 5 nights in Zermatt.

The staff is beyond rude. We came in for a reservation minus one person and were treated horrible. They moved our table 3 times eventually asking us to stand in the bar til they could sit us at a table that would "suit" us. I do believe it was because we are American. If you are European you might have... More

I booked at this restaurant based on the Tripadvisor rating and the "Certificate of Excellence" provided by Tripadvisor (I really would like to know how those are given). Let me explain why my review is so negative. My first plate, gambas, recommended and a so called specialty of Le Gitan, basically they just were de-frozen, but well de-frozen -ok. The... More

In a town with many wonderful restaurants, Le Gitan grill stands out. The rack of lamb is simply sublime as is the whole chicken for two. The scalloped potatoes are so good, I'd go here just for them. Coupled with a good wine list, a warm cosy atmosphere and fabulous staff, this place is one of the best. Watching the... More

Great environment, nice food and welcoming staff. I tried tomato soup, lamb carpaccio, potato gratin with pork sausage. Good choice for dinner in Zermatt!

The sizzling “holzfeuer” is the centrepiece of Le Gitan, creating an immediate warm and welcoming atmosphere at the forefront of the restaurant. You can wet your appetite by watching all the action from your table; our chef prepares all our grills over the wood fire. Specialities include lamb, prawns, beef and spit-roasted chicken tarragon.
