The Brown Cow pub at the Post Hotel is a lively and comfortable pub that is located in the heart of Zermatt. The setting is slightly rustic and the food is excellent. The pub attracts locals and foreign guests of all ages. The hamburgers come in a generous size and the fries are tasty. There are many other options on the menu. They offer a long list local and foreign beers and wines. Sporting events may be seen on several TV screens. The setting can be rather crowded during the ski season but we were always able to find a table or a place at the bar in a few minutes. The servers were prompt, attentive, and spoke and understood English quite well. This is a great place to enjoy burgers and a drink or two at a reasonable price in a casual setting.

We ate here to keep eating out costs down. The bar specialises in craft beers. Guinness is available on tap, with other beers coming from small Swiss breweries. The menu was largely burgers or hot dogs, each coming with portions of chips or salad. Despite the necessity to keep customers at a distance (eg no standing at the bar - only seated spaces allowed), the bar still had plenty of atmosphere during our visit.

My son and I visited Zermatt in December 2019, and we ate at the Brown Cow Pub on two separate occasions. Each time, the pub was very busy, but we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes to find seats. The food was delicious (try the burger - it is excellent), and the cost was extremely reasonable by Switzerland and Zermatt standards.

Went there in July 2020 with 2 families. They do not take reservations but we got lucky and had 2 adjacent tables within 15 minutes. Good service, decent beer selection and tasty burgers and similar comfort food. At ca. 20 CHF per Burger incl Fries that is very reasonably priced by Zermatt standards.

The service was very good, we were given menus, and our orders taken quickly. We had a sharing platter while we waited for friends, which was actually a lot bigger than we expected, and the burgers we choose for main were well cooked, tasted great, and were more then big enough, especially with a good portion of fries.
The fact they had Guinness on tap was just an added bonus

We came upon the Brown Cow on our first morning exploring the town. It was a warm day and the shutters were open which drew us in, enabling us to enjoy our drinks while over looking the street and passers by.
We both ordered the Croque Monsieur and the service was very fast and attentive. There is a wide variety of international branded alcoholic drinks... my partner was especially pleased to be served a pint of Guinness upon our arrival! Nice relaxed atmosphere for us planning our day ahead. We would definitely return again!

It was the worst 10 minutes experience I ever had.I had just arrived to Zermatt in the middle of the night and wanted to go for a beer with 4 other friends. Once we seated and the waitress approached to us I asked her for a menu, she refused to give me one. Because of this I told her I wanted the cheapest 0.5 L beer they had, she laughed in my face. Then two of my friends didn’t want to order anything but she told us we had to in order to stay. The bar was practically empty, there were only two more tables occupied. My friends were willing to spend, had she told us nicely, but that was not the case. She didn’t even let us tell her. She told us we should go downstairs to the club but they were probably weren’t going to let us in anyways.
The attitude of the waitress since the beginning intended to make me and friends uncomfortable. So much so, it was enough for us to want to leave. We left and didn’t order anything. Terrible customer service.

Went with the family after skiing, kids all had hotdogs which they very much enjoyed. Adults had a burger and beers. This is nothing special, but a friendly place to have a meal, and even though it is a pub the atmosphere was fine for a family with three young girls. As a place to grab an easy meal in Zermatt I recommend it.

We ate here twice during our week-long stay in Zermatt. Pros: Food was delicious, drink menu had excellent variety, staff was friendly and prices were reasonable. Cons: there is insufficient seating during peak meal times so many would stand waiting for a table or stand at a bar, the servers could be overwhelmed by the crowds at peak meal times so the restaurant may benefit by hiring more staff, and we ran out of the small ration of ketchup nearly immediately for our meals both nights with no ability to flag down a server to get more in a timely fashion. However, overall we had an enjoyable experience for both meals.

After a ride on the matterhorn express we were all hungry so we went to the brown cow for food. We're vegetarian and we were delighted to some several veggie options.
The food was delicious, the service was great and lightning fast, and the place has a great ambience. We wanted to go back the next day, but because it was a Saturday, the place was jam packed - standing room only.

The service, food and beer here were all great. 5 stars. They had a great selection of local Zermatt and Swiss Beer. The food was perfect - we are vegetarian and were able to come here twice for lunch. We ordered the creamy tomato soup, the golden, crispy french fries, the veggie burger, and the salad (warning - the salad is covered in slices of cheese and creamy dressing, in case you are looking for a true green "salad."). Love this spot!

We were looking for a restaurant with Gluten-free food, and this pub provided the BEST GF bun I have ever had in any restaurant in over ten years of being GF! I was so thrilled and satisfied. My entire meal of salad, burger, and veggies was delicious. Food presentation was also most pleasing. My husband tried two different beers on tap, both good, and I enjoyed a GF wine that was also smooth and tasty. If we had stayed in town longer, we would've eaten there an additional night. Good value for a good price and most appetizing!

We visited twice, once for a glass of wine and then again for a quick dinner.
Really lovely bar, very Alpine looking but contemporary. Nice atmosphere.
The burger was soooooo good - not something I’d normally order but it was recommended by the lady behind the bar (who incidentally was not rude as some others have said but very efficient with a dry wit!)
We overheard an American saying it was the best burger he’d ever had which is praise indeed!
Reasonable prices for Zermatt!

Brown Cow Pub serves great beers and also very good pub food. Menu was simple but had a variety. Seasonal specials also added some extra choices.
The was a good place to take kids as half portions were availavke on some meals. Our server was friendly and efficient and added to the whole experience.
Thanks Brown Cow Pub for a wonderful family dinner.

We have been to Zermatt a few times over the years and the Brown Cow is always first on our list of places to go for a drink. This time was no exception, and we went there on the first night of our holiday. We had to wait a while to be served as the pub was very busy and the waitress did apologise to us profusely for keeping us waiting. We know how busy it can get there so we were okay with it. However, next time we visited we wanted something to eat and so went earlier in the evening when it was quieter. There were a couple of empty tables, and the place did not seem at all busy. We sat and chose what we wanted to eat and drink, and then waited to be served. The waitress did look over at us and nod, and so we kept on waiting thinking she would be over in a few minutes. However, she seemed to then go to every person at the bar, but did not come to us at all, not even to say that she would be with us in a minute. There was another couple who came in a few minutes after us who sat at an uncleared table and they were also ignored, and no one came to clear the table. After waiting 25 minutes and still no sign of us being served, we left and went elsewhere. With drinks now at ÂŁ9.50 a pint (appreciate that this is due to the weak UK pound) we wanted to go somewhere where we would at least get good service. We did not go back to the Brown Cow for the rest of the holiday due to the appalling service, which we were disappointed about as it has always been a part of our Zermatt holidays.
