Food didn’t taste at all. We had to season our starters( salmon and beef) tartars with salt and peppar, and potato pure with pork was gold… I had to find asparagus from my risotto, and there was no parmesan added. Expensive. Wine was great, and...the winelist was huge!!! Really nice atmosphere and nice location.More

This was our second visit to Trani, but on the previous occasion we had no booking, and they accomodated us in a small overflow area. This time we were there with my son and partner, who live in Lugano and had recently been on a...number of occasions, and spoke very highly about those experiences. We were very warmly welcomed, and our waiter, Enrico, was both helpful and accomodating. They have all menus in English, which for us (Irish), was a huge bonus. The food was 'head and shoulders' above the standard offered in other Lugano restaurants, and I certainly considered it to be certainly one of the best restaurants I have eaten in. As a frequent visitor to Lugano (circa five or six visits every year), I have dined in almost every restaurant of consequence, but Trani still remains my favourite. We asked for help with the wine selection, and the waiter offered us a taste of their own 'Merlot Bianco', which was both excellent and inexpensive. Overall, food , service, wine etc., were all first class, and I can strongly recommend it to any discerning diners looking for an upmarket meal at modest prices. Congratulations to the management and staff, and long may you offer your inventive and creative food offerings.More

Very unpleasant experience overall. Staff was extremely rude after a booking mistake, making up I booked multiple times at the restaurant, completely invented fact. I would avoid this place for the reputation… very rude

Fantastic food in a beautiful and friendly environment. The food was outstanding: fresh, creative and delicious. We’re tough critics from New York City and this is every bit as delicious as the best we’ve eaten there and around the world. Cannot wait to come back...on our next trip.More

Found the food to be average. The wine cellar was quite good. The place is expensive. I wouldn't return.

This was a nice find in central Lugano, near the top of a small hill. The restaurant is intimate and the tables fairly closely spaced. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The wine list is extremely large! The food was great. I had a...broccoli soup appetizer with pesto and anchovies; interesting and flavorful combination. My wife had salmon tartare with avocado. Our mains were risotto with speck and gnocchi with trepanese pesto and tomato sauce. All good. This is a very nice couples spot!More

Located on a steep side street not far from the lake but somewhat inland, this trattoria has very good food including impressive fresh fish (albeit a little bland at least for the amberjack carpaccio) and a classic Italian menu with flavorful starters, pasta, fish, and...meat courses. The waiting staff are nice but moderately overwhelmed between the indoor and outside seating. Inside it was relatively hot (no AC but some fans). The wine list is an encyclopedia with a focus on Swiss and Italian wines. It is fantastic and reasonably priced although parts of the wine cellar were open without adequate temperature and humidity control for all sections. Still an amazing and reasonable place to try great wines.More

With no reservation on a busy, warm, Saturday evening, my partner and I identified Trani on tripadvisor and decided to walk over and try our luck. It is a few min (uphill) walk from the centre, towards the train station, but on a narrow side...street, with tables delightfully perched outside on the steep street, at different levels. We arrived around 20:00 and about half of the tables were occupied outside, the waiters welcomed us warmly and after a few minutes they offered us a table outside. The menu is a combination of Italian flavours with something for every taste, and is not overly exhaustive (an indicator of freshness and quality). We shared an excellent tartare to begin, followed by a beef fillet, and the highlight- a stunningly prepared octopus (crunchy on the outside yet velvety on the inside), one of the best i have had. The wine list (la biblia) is however exhaustive and must cover a few hundred pages, for every budget. The waiter recommended to us a very nice, local red to go with our meal. There must have been at least 20 other couples/groups that arrived during our meal also without a reservation, and most had to be turned away, so it is advisable to reserve particularly on the weekend and with nice weather. We did not go inside but the restaurant looked gorgeous from the outside in. For the quality of food, service, and ambiance, the bill was also perfectly reasonable, in fact very good value compared to other places in Switzerland such as Geneva. We spent 3 nights in Lugano and tried a different restaurant each time, all highly rated, but Osteria Trani was the most enjoyable of our stay.More

Carta dei vini is one of the best in Lugano and wine prices are very fair. Food is good but nothing really special/unique. Location is authentic and, as big plus, near the station on the way down to the city. Service: One waitress is on...alert and acutallly rocking the show, while the two waitors seem to work more sporadically and to be just the bosses (e.g. we had to serve and refill our glasses mostly on our own). For a good bottle of wine with finger food to share, we may certainly come back but not for dinner.More

Love the [huge] wine list and elegant food. Our first visit was on Friday (3 July) and we needed to go back there for dinner on Saturday. Our favorites are the raw red shrimps with burrata and the octopus goulash. We also tried the amber...jack carpaccio, beef carpaccio, seafood linguine & tiramisu. Do get wine recommendations from the owner…. He is good.More

Do not visit this place under any circumstances! The food is ok (at best) but the staff and owner are agressieve and nasty people! They are happy to serve completely disgusting sub-standard food and drinks, but then refuse to take ANY responsibility. If you ask...them about the poor quality, they threaten you and say they will call the police. This is the worst restaurant we have ever been to/ absolutely avoid at all costs and advise your friend to never ever go there. Anyone you hate- invite them to go thereMore

Brilliant on all levels. This is a great “little” restaurant right on the edge of the city centre that has everything … great locale, massive wine list with brilliant local Ticino options plus Europe & globe wide options also, great genuine service … oh, and...great food! Our summer dinner was seafood focused, with the raw red prawns with buffalo cheese truly brilliant. My main was the octopus goulash (special) & wifey had a fantastic seafood fettuccine which was cooked perfectly. The local Ticino white merlot wine went perfectly. Just a lovely evening.More

This was a really lovely dinner in the centre of Lugano. We booked a week in advance and I'm glad we did, as there were so many people looking for a table. We were able to choose the best 2 person table outside and it...truly is a very nice atmosphere sitting on the steps by low light. The service was very good, we tried our best to speak Italian, but there was an English speaking server who assisted us. I tried their raw prawn and burrata dish and it was just delicious! We really enjoyed the rest of the meal also, all very nice quality. The wine list is vast and has a great choice of local wines. I would very much reccomend this restaurant for a quiet evening dinner with authentic Italian food. Do make sure you book in advance though as there were no spare tables.More
