We had booked an à la cart dinner at the restaurant on 28 February 2022 and had a lovely greeting. The wood panelled dining room with candelabra is very attractive. The menu is fairly short, which I think is a good sign, and we ordered...starters and mains. We were brought an amuse bouche of a macaron with goose liver mousse which was really interesting and delicious, but having taken one small bite, our starters arrived almost simultaneously. That seemed a bit odd and rather spoilt the enjoyment of the macaron. My starter of lobster bisque was lovely however my husband’s salad was underwhelming. When the mains arrived, my husband’s veal was completely cold and it was a minute or two before we could attract the attention of the staff and send it back to the kitchen. There was no offer to take away my main course of “wild cauliflower” (is that a thing?) so that we could both eat at the same time. By the time my husband’s main returned, “with the sincere apologies of the chef”, probably about 10 minutes later, I had completely finished eating. This left them with a dilemma of whether to clear my plate or leave it. In the event they left it for a while and then cleared it whilst my husband continued with his main. His re-served meat was up to temperature and he finished the dish, though found it rather lacking in a suitable garnish. We then ordered an ice cream and a coffee. We were seated at a dividing partition with very tall beautiful candelabra about 60+ cm tall placed on it. The waitress squeezed behind chairs serving another group at the table the other side of the partition and knocked it so that a candle (fortunately unlit) came crashing down onto our table. The candelabra itself rocked perilously - had it fallen we would have been showered with broken glass from the contents of our table. There was a small apology that could so easily be damned with faint praise. When the bill came, we were naturally interested to see what adjustment had been made. Not even faint praise this time. Was there a small sweetener on the bill? If you count two boiled sweets, yes, otherwise not so much as a single coffee was deducted. We are not expecting to return any time soon.More
