Headed here from Interlaken by train and sought out the meringues that had their origin in this pretty wee town. We eat in the outdoor area and enjoyed a very substantial meringue with great views of the mountains. Not a cheap place to eat and the town closes at lunch time. Sherlock Holmes is a big thing here and the... More

Meiringen ( Switzerland) is the birthplace of Merengue, the sweet made of eggs without yokes . Accept our guide it was first made by a Italian cook to please king Leopold ' s daughter. She had a sweet tooth. This is a must see place . After meal in Creuz restaurant I asked the waitress about a place to eat... More

I stopped here after shopping for coffee with mineral water. It was possible to sit outside in the garden. I hoped that they would have raw cakes or something healthy, but they had nothing special. The price for coffee and water with gas is 8,60 CHF too much.

Worth trying the huge "signature dish" meringue here. It's your classic local Swiss cafe- styling from the 70s but the history of the meringue gives it a nice feel. Adjoining bakery for all your healthy purchases!

We made several stops here during our stay to have some torte and hot chocolate. The tea room is casual and the decor is pleasant, and open, with plants and skylights. Each of the tortes we had were delicious.

We stopped by for morning coffee and promised that we would indulge properly at afternoon tea time. Meringue ,ice cream, cream and fruit you just have to have it once and where better?

We loved getting bread and pastries to take home to the house we were renting. They were all fresh and delicious -- making long hikes a necessity to burn off the calories.

We ordered the meringue for two with ice cream and whipped cream. It is HUGE and the meringue was like eating sugared cardboard - I think that's what it's supposed to be like, but it was just too much. And really, I love sugar. I mean, I love it. So for us to not finish it, I'm saying it was... More

Being diabetic I could only watch in envy as my wife demolished her stunning meringue. What a lovely tea room.
