I don't usually like 'Irish' bars abroad, but Red John's is a little gem!
It is welcoming and friendly, without going over the top. The location, right on the river is lovely, particularly during the summer months where it is a great place to relax and have a drink.
If you're looking for a decent spot for a drink amdayne a bot of a chat in Solothurn, you could do a lot worse!
p.s. they also show the likes of the Six Nations Rugby matches with English commentary which is great...

Day out in Solothurn, meeting of friends, was early so decided to hit this bar and watch some of the game between Switzerland V Wales.
Service was quick and I tried some of the local Oufi beer, which was cold and looked good. To be honest I would say I'm not a fan of the pale lager, just a bit too sweet for me.
Not many were inside looking at the game, which was just as well as it wasn't great to watch. More outside enjoying the mid day sun. Met a fellow mad irish man so had the chat over more beer for a good while.
One thing that was a bit annoying. One of the bar men, well i should say boy, who was serving me all day, and was courteous, when his shift had just finished (unbeknownst to me), I happened to ask him to pull me another pint. His mood and demeanor changed, as if he was just acting beforehand, and barked at me that he wasn't working any longer. I am literally talking about minutes here. Very rude, does he not like his job?. He was damn lucky I was in a very good mood or id have shown him some of my footballing skills, the little pup! It was a pity as it left a sour taste in the mouth.

I never stepped foot inside. It was a nice night so we sat outside. But the server who took care of us was friendly and we never seemed to wait very long. The beer was beer and the whiskey went down easy. I'd come back here.

With its fantastic location on the banks of the river, this pub manages to please both the seekers of cozyness and those on a night out, depending on the time of your visit. The very diverse and extensive drinks menu gives plenty of options to the thirsty. Recently the two hosts have even gone so far to brew their own beer, great stuff. Speaking of the hosts, staff is always very knowledgable about the beers and whiskies, are super friendly and know how to entertain a crowd.
Only drawbacks are the relatively small size of both the whole pub and especially the restrooms.

Full of locals enjoying a Thursday night beer, popped in with a couple of colleagues for a beer after dinner.
A typical Irish style bar adorned with football scarves and shirts, the barman was very welcoming.
One word of warning is that this is a cash only bar, no cards.

Ask for Fritz he's our favorite bar keeper here, always smiling, funny and caring. If you're lucky and he happens to like you he might sell you his Fritzes-Spezial ;)
No really locals as well as tourists love this place, give it a go :)

After being expansively stitched up by the local take away we reverted to the Irish bar and were warmly welcomed by The smiling barman ftitz
We explained our situation and were offered some very tasty bar food which was very appreciated. Whilst being many miles from home we were made to feel like locals and enjoyed a very lively evening
Definitely the place to party in the lovely town of solothurn
