Brasserie Au Violon is a local favourite that consistently serves fresh, tasty and well-prepared French brasserie fare. On this particular occasion, enjoyed a perfectly-poached salmon with a chorizo foam and risotto, followed by a scrumptious lemon and fruit tart. Outdoor terrace dining (seasonal) is particularly enjoyable.

We chose the Mid-day menü. The first course was boiled beef salad and took nearly half an hour to arrive. The tables left and right also had to wait. It was nicely presented but rather bland. It could have had more vinegar, capers and cornichons and less mayonnaise. The main course was Saltimbocca of chicken breast. Well cooked and served... More

Great setting, very good menu, and excellent wine list. Brasserie is part of a hotel set in an old jail, which gives it a unique and historic vibe. But best way to enjoy Au Violon is to sit on the terrace when the weather is good. The gravel paths, lighting strung across the trees, and of course the trickling fountain,... More

We ate here on Thursday 19th May on our final night in Switzerland. Our hotel had recommended it and it really was a brilliant recommendation. Its in a beautiful setting and has a real old world charm. We found Basel to be exceptionally expensive but at least here we felt it was worth every franc. My main course of sea... More

We travelled to Basel for the European Cup Final & dined here for lunch. The restaurant is in a beautiful old building which is full of character. We enjoyed an excellent meal which was promptly served to our large party of 10. We were very impressed by the service. Our waiter was attentive and extremely polite. We would definitely recommend... Spent a lovely evening here during the Basel show when everywhere is expensive - at least here its worthwhile. Excellent food, attentive service and everything we hoped for.

This is a place that does not change: whenever you go, for whatever reason (friends or business, family or couples) it is always good. The food is great, the service fab, the setting historic and typically traditional Swiss. Grand.
