We came here twice once for lunch, once for dinner. The food is basic, the beer is cold, the decor is comfortable and the service is adequate. Basel is pricey, but the prices here were fairly reasonable.

The restaurant is in the center of Basel and easy to reach with public transport. They also have a " bierhalle", groundfloor and the restaurant is on the 1st floor. Good honest food, good menu card and friendly staff and smooth service. Nice to visit after a good walk in town or after work drink and followed by some good... More

Restaurant recommended by our hotel. Had a cute atmosphere, so we wanted to eat here. Staff favored locals and allowed tourists to wait and wait on tables. We were seated with two gentlemen drinking beers. They were outwardly upset we were placed at their table (we don't mind sharing and usually enjoy meeting people). Food was not very good quality... We called in for lunch. The menu was quite comprehensive with something for everyone including traditional Swiss dishes. The restaurant (street level) was not too busy but service was extremely slow. The food when it arrived was good but with the wait and the waiter's indifference to us, we wouldn't be in a hurry to return.

We really enjoyed sitting with locals, not just tourists, in a relaxed atmosphere with traditional food and beer. My Alsace Tart with Gruyere cheese and sweet onions was delicious. Several tap handles to choose from.

We recommend this restaurant for its traditional Swiss/German cuisine at moderate prices. My wife enjoyed a tender, juicy Weiner Schnitzel. Note that even though it appears a bit dark in this photo, it was by far the best she's had. I enjoyed a large pork sausage with a brown onion gravy and a side of rosti (shredded) potatoes, a popular... More

Zum Braunen Mutz is located at Barfussplatz. There are lots of sidewalk seats so one can enjoy their beverage or food on a nice sunny day protected under their umbrellas. Inside, there is wooden paneling along the walls and wooden tables and chairs. The restaurant side is a nice open space, while the bar side has stools and high tables... More

Was here in April. Very pricey. For Flammenkuchen you pay 3 times plus compared to Freiburg. Tried one anyway as most other things were insanely expensive. €39 for a Schnitzel! €26 for a burger !!! Flammenkuchen was ok. No cheese on it when I ordered it with it. My friends tried the white sausages: bland. Beer selection good good but... More
