The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 8:00 pm, that should have clued us in. My bratwurst was tastless, roti was warmed over. Wife's veal stew was tough and tasted like beef. On the positive side, service was fine and cost was reasonable by Swiss standards.

Seating is both indoors and outdoors; staff are consistently pleasant, enjoyed local bratwurst with onion sauce and open red wine. A most enjoyable dinner outdoors.

With our travel group we were served an excellent meal (beef Stroganoff) at this restaurant. It was delicious and one of the best meals while spending three weeks in Europe. Being a Senior the portions were very large and we wished they provided "Dogie Bags" like here in the states!

We had been in Switzerland for two weeks and wanted a traditional meal on our last evening. Trip Advisor and our concierge at the Hotel Basel both had good recommendations for this restaurant. It had a great ambiance, a good selection of tap beer, excellent service, and incredibly good food. My wife and I each had the house specialty which... More

Along with my husband and several friends we were treated to lunch at Schnabel's by our tour company. We enjoyed a delicious vegetarian soup and Swiss style comfort food consisting of beef stroganoff and spatzele and beer. This was followed by ice cream and coffee. Our servers were very pleasant and didn't seem the least bit stressed with serving 120... More

I had a glass of white wine and a big portion of beef in "Paris sauce", which is the house special. The restaurant cosy and nice. I spent 39 franc, that is a good price here

The starter Gazpacho was really nice. As a main I took the liver with rösti: disaster. The liver was not bad per se, but the whole plate was literally floating in melted butter. Very heavy. The rösti was bland due to the absence of salt and pepper. I was not able to finish my meal. Positive note for the service:... More

When we fancy typical Swiss-style comfort food this is is where we go! We visited last night and had another very enjoyable meal. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were quickly shown to our seats. We had ordered a bottle of red wine and a bottle of water which promptly arrived along with a basket of bread. We... More

We had a nice dinner here of mixed salad and Wiener schnitzel with fries and seasonal vegetables. It was a good solid meal but nothing extraordinary. We felt it was very good value for the price and therefore, we are happy to recommend it.

The "Schnabel" is one of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in town. With its cosy atmosphere it is very characteristic for Basel and the place where locals meet. It is firmly ancered in the customs of this town and during the Carnival worth a look! It is well known for its good plain cooking and local specialities, fine wines and a large range of quality beers on tap. We speak several languages and have English & French Menus available.
