I really like the Hirscheneck for a drink and its relaxed atmosphere but I have to say that the food was disappointing all times I gave it a try. I once had an innovative vegan dish during a Christmas party and recently tried a combo of soup and french fries. Apart from the salad that I had as starter with... More

Very local, hipster atmosphere. In the middle of our dinner, a wonderful flamenco dancer came in and gave a little show. Very generous servings. Went there again for lunch the next day!

That´s what the people say... But Hirscheneck also known to be a comfortable alternative restaurant with nice music and open minded people. There you can drink a tee, or coffe, read some newspaper, have a lunch or dinner, vegan, vegetarian or with meat... At sundays there is a brunch from 10:00am to 3:00pm At night, mostly weekends, there are concerts... More

first time in Basel, we were a bit surprised by the high prizes. Just walking around we found Hirscheneck. Great! Nice people, all kind of guests, only one meat menu (which was very good) and 5 vegetarian menu's, the choice of my wife was the best vegetarian meal in years

A particularly nice place for vegan/vegetarian/others. The ingredients are super fresh and the spices are hearty and very balanced. Good local beers (including unfiltered). The portions are quite ample, and prices moderate. I recommend.

alternative collective Restaurant. Very good vegetarian/vegan food, cooked with passion and imagination and with an eye on prices. A place to be if you want to live the informal political & cultural Basel scene.

Very nice place to have a drink or a few, the environment is not classy, so if you are searching for something like that, just skip this. Very nice service, good music, prices ok for Basel.

I had brunch at Restaurant Hirscheneck many times, and I always enjoy it enough to come back. Nevertheless the brunch is ok, nothing special, and surely overpriced. It helps the fact that Basel on sunday is a dead place with almost everything closed.

This is a local hangout where the tables are shared, and it's best to go in with either a knowledge of German and the history of left-liberal politics or both. The reward is an atmosphere of community, and tasty homebaked treats. There were a lot more places like this in the 60's and 70's, but Hirscheneck seems to be thriving.

Very friendly service, most of the times willing to chat even with non german speaking people. Their food is absolutly excellent although you don't have many choices (6-8 dishes). And last but not least very good prices for Basel standards.
