For $125 our family of 4 had two filets, a HUGE chicken, shredded beef and bottle of wine! The steak was tender and well-seasoned. The wine delicious. The chicken chargrilled to perfection. 1000% recommend.

Comfortably the best of three restaurants we tried (the others were San Desiderio and Babaguf which were both mixed and middling). We went twice. Excellent food and wine. Pici pasta and sliced steak were stand out. Delicious and fairly priced bottle of Altesino rosso di...Montalcino. Great service from Alessandro. Quite small so you need to book.More

Wish we had found this delicious Osteria sooner. We had not booked a table so we arrived right as they opened for lunch and they were able to seat us. We ordered the tagliatelle with artichokes and tuscan bacon, the pici with pork ragu (a...patron favorite), fried artichoke and mixed green salad along with wine. Both pastas dishes were prepared beautifully and tasted even better. The pork dish was hearty, comforting and the perfect marriage between the Sienese pici and the deep flavors of the pork and sauce. The tagliatelle had the perfect balance of pasta to the artichoke and bacon pieces brought together with I don’t know what but it was not overly sauced and so satisfying. The artichoke was battered and deep fried after being cut into manageable pieces. Had not had one battered before so it was a surprise but we enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and the perfect ending to our meal. We would order the same all over again - once we try the other menu offerings.More

This little out-of-the-way tavern came highly recommended by our hotel staff at the Relais degli Angeli, and it did not disappoint. If you are in the beautiful city of Siena, search this place out. It was one of our best meals in Italy on our...recent trip.More

After being introduced to Bistecca Alla Fiorentina (Steak Florentine) on one of the US TV cooking channels, my wife and I were hoping to try this dish when we visited Siena. Our research directed us to Osteria La Sosta di Violante, so we made reservations...several weeks in advance. Driving through the Tuscan countryside on our way to Siena we observed the distinctive white Chianina cattle, the prized Tuscan breed known for its tasty beef that is exclusively used for this steak. It was fun to see what we had watched on TV and made our anticipated meal that much more enjoyable. Osteria La Sosta did not disappoint. Our meal was superb. The uncooked steak was brought to our table for our approval; and we were informed it weighed 1.2 kg/2.65 lb. (steak thickness is measured in fingers, usually 2-4 fingers). Cost for this monster was only €60. Too much for us to eat but the leftovers were eaten on our drive to the Cinque Terre the next day. The steak is a classic T-shape and is for 2 people. It is cooked rare to medium-rare over a wood-fired grill, almost butter-like in texture, and melts in your mouth. It is the most flavorful and enjoyable steak either of us have ever eaten. If you like a good steak this is a must. Steak aside, the rest of our meal at Osteria La Sosta was excellent. The waitstaff was attentive, helpful, and very friendly. If you are staying in or nearby Siena and have the opportunity, you must try this restaurant. It’s only a 10-minute walk from Piazza del Campo. You will not be disappointed. Reservations are highly recommended.More

Two course lunch enjoyed here on a rainy day in October. Arriving at 1pm we got the last table inside, showing it was clearly a popular place. We sampled a plate of salumi with "surprises" such as a lovely pecorino truffle flan and mini sausage...rolls. Mains were traditional Tuscan pastas (ragu, etc) and were very flavoursome. This is a great little place in Siena.More

I cannot rate the food but sharing my customer experience: I had no reservation, so I came 5 minutes before the official open hours to ask if they would have a table for 4. The answer was rude: "we are fully booked, AND WE ARE...CLOSED!". So we did not eat there - and the second part of the answer was not necessary. But we have been warmly welcome at Da Gano, 50 meters up across the street.More

Came here on a recommendation from our B&B host and could not have been more pleased. The pecorino cheese puffs with pear sauce were scrumptious. The onion soup with pecorino was better than the French onions I’m used to, the risotto was very nice, and...the pici with pork was also very good. The highlight of the night was the Florentine steak, we had it medium rare and if you are used to medium rare from the US you might feel like it is being served like sushi, but please don’t let that make you send it back, it was amazing that way. Both my wife and daughter enjoyed it as well. To finish the tiramisu was excellent. If you’re thinking of the steak and you don’t have a big appetite, don’t hesitate to skip the primi, as it is a lot of steak (2 lbs +).More

As recommended on here , this restaurant is not to be missed on a visit to Sienna. Quiet setting about 5 minutes from the Piazza di Campo. We shared the Florentina steak (a huge 1kg T bone @€55). By far the best steak either of...us had ever eaten. We asked for medium and whilst it was served pinker than I’d usually have, it was so tender that this wasn’t an issue. Staff were all friendly and helpful. A good mixture of tourists and locals. We left at 21.45 and there was still a queue outside( Tuesday night) , but we never felt rushed to leave, despite not having a reservation.More

We enjoyed wonderful outside dining in a neighborhood away from too many tourists. Customers were a nice blend of local people and visitors. Try the stuffed eggplant towers topped with mozzarella. The stake was grilled to perfection and delicious. Our host, Enrico, was charming. This...small, unassuming place has a superior menu well worth the visit. Reservations are a must. Highly recommended.More
