The first sign that this restaurant was going to be good was that it was the only restaurant on our 10 day trip to Italy whose menu was not translated into English. This small osteria was recommended to us by a local and we had one of our best meals in Italy there. The antipasti were amazing - caprese with... More

I had an amazing lunch here! This place is small so I nearly missed it as I walked past. I initially heard about it on WIkitravel and thought I'd stop by after an afternoon of sightseeing in the summer heat. I ordered the pici, which is essentially fat spaghetti with some Chianti to sip on. The food and wine were... More

As I travel, I try to find authentic, earthy flavours that represent the area, way of life and cooking. In Italy, it seems, for me it means "nonna-like" food, how grandma would have made it. I don't mind fancy tableware nor service without hickups, those are not essential for my Italian experience. Osteria del Gatto was situated quite near the... More

We have visited this place after a recommedation from a local and wow - it may have been the best dinner of our lives - delicious mains were accompanied by side dishes so good it was hard to believe that such simple food can be that good. We'll definetely go back next time we're around. Absolutely recommended.

An okay lunch experience. Can't say we felt particularly welcome, we certainly could have ordered better if we had had a phrase book to figure out the menu. The food we had was good, and I think probably quite authentic.

Very average place. Food is fresh and tasty, feels like eating Italian mamma food but it is nothing special. Poor house wine and average service. And Osteria is dirty, there is even mold here and there (just check out the window next to the entrance)... No comments. Will not come back, even if we enjoyed the food.

The pasta with porcini...gooey, bland, and just alright. Sorry. The gnocchi with hazelnuts and gorgonzola was pretty darn tasty. Had a good bottle of wine and the grilled radicchio, that came out late, was my favorite part of the meal. And we sat next to some locals and there were a few english speaking tables too, so Gatto was up... More

We found this place on our last night and wished we had found it sooner. Small local place with Sienese customers - not catering to tourists. Authentic. We loved their pici pasta appetizer so much that we ordered another plate for our dessert! Would love to visit again.

First of all you need to book in advance, because the place is small and the requests are many! You can now set at your table and enjoy the secret recipes of the owner, especially concerning the meet dishes, but not exclusively. Be ready for a real Italian dinner: market products (locals) and great quantities, plus the local red wine.... More

Some classic local dishes and overall served well with lots of flavor. I think for an extra euro or two the house wine could definitely pick up a notch to help match the strong flavors and rich food. Slightly pricy for such a rustic look and feel and really need to work on the communication and concept of service.....if it... More
