Don't really understand the hype of the place. We stopped by twice during our stay in San Gimignano. First time, tried the rosemary/raspberry and blackberry/lavender. Both just tasted like berry sorbet. No distinctive flavors of the herbs. Second try - gorgonzola with walnuts. I love...savory ice-cream, but this was too savory. Best we tried was the mint. However, in the end, both my husband and I had stomach-aches from the gelato for hours afterwards. We are not lactose intolerant. Usually happens when the products isn't as pure as indicated. And, we only had the smallest portion in a cup. Nothing special. Sorry.More

The ice cream was the best i had in Italy. The portions are (very) large and taste great! There was a big queue but the staff was so quick and we waited only 5 minutes. If you visit San Gimignano you must get this ice...cream!More

My wife and I both enjoyed a combination of mango and strawberry gelato from Dondoli's. We walked through the town square in which the gelateria sits early in the afternoon and the line for this establishment's gelato was at least 100 feet long. The line...had subsided a bit when we stopped by after having dinner - the line was probably only 25 feet long. Dondoli's probably had 6-8 people working feverishly behind the counter serving gelato - we got through the line in under 10 minutes. My wife had the small 3.50EUR waffle cone while I enjoyed the 7EUR large cup. I though I have had gelato before - I was wrong. This gelato was very rich and velvety - truly amazing! My wife and I are probably spoiled for all future ice cream, frozen yogurt, and America's version of gelato.More

Lots of signs proclaiming the "best gelato" in this square - both this place and one other. We tried their gelato. My wife got a combination of chocolate and cookies and proclaimed it tasty. I got Cannella (Cinnamon). I was surprised how enjoyable it was...and proclaimed it delicious ! I can believe, this place has the world's best.More
