Ok, I simply can't understand anyone who rates this place less than 5 stars. Yes, they can get busy but if you go there early then you can beat the crowds and even when there is a line it moves super fast. Here's how I know: We arrived a little after 10am and each got 3 or 4 scoops. It was DELICIOUS. Seriously. Best gelato we had while we were in Italy. It was so good that we knew we had to get more before we left. When we went back, a little after 11:30, there was a LONG line. We had to meet our driver at 12 and were worried we wouldn't make it but decided to give the line about 10 minutes and we'd decide after that. Well, we were out of there (each with 2 coops) by the time that 10 minutes was up and easily met up with our driver by 12. You absolutely MUST stop here if you're in town.

Very creamy ice-cream with great taste. I liked their unusual combinations such as rosemary and raspberry or blueberry with cottage cheese. There is usually big queue, but it goes fast as there are several personnel serving ice-cream and also one personnel is giving people in queue a QR code for the page with their offer. Go there, taste it!

My son and I are not big fans of sweets. But when in italy, everyone says gelato is a must. So we gave a few gelateria a try and they were good but nothing to write home about. Then we took a day trip to San Giminano and our driver told us that Dondoli was rated the best gelato in the world. We decided to split a gelato and rate it for ourselves. Wow! Its was so delish! Creamy yet not too overpowering. It wasn't the one bite gelato and you're sick of the rich flavor kind of thing. Its was a one spoon after the next kind of experience until it was all gone. Even my son enjoyed it a lot. And what I loved about it, it wasn't as sweet as all the others we tasted on this trip! Definitely check this place out when in san giminano.

We went to San Gimignano as part of a tour late October, 2019 on the last hot day of our trip. Our tour guide told us how to tell if gelato/i is fresh and homemade - look for pastel colours not bright colours as that means there is too many artificial colours in them. She recommended this place as the best in Tuscany. The queue was long, but moved quickly. For 2 scoops in a cone it was E4. Great tasting gelato - I can recommend lemon and strawberry. Yum, best I ate in Italy. Great service in a small shop. Plenty of places to sit and eat after or wander around.

This gelateria was the best we had on our trip! The smoothness of the ice cream was like satin on your tongue. Some really unique flavors we hadn’t found in the other gelaterias like butternut with chocolate and saffron cream. Best flavors were fig with cream & vin santo, pink grapefruit with sparkling wine and berries with ricotta. They are award winning and we could taste why!

We arrive to San Giminiano with the idea of feeling the Middle Age streets, to see the out wall landscapes, and to buy the Cinghiale local products (wild pig), local Chianti wines & cheeses, and the "best ice cream in the world". So we arrived in good time, very few tourist in the city, and asked for the maximum of tastes in the bigger cup of ice cream: 6. My wife asked all the six of fruits, and I asked all the 6 of "creams". No question that they are working with excellent products, and some were great, like pistachio, white chocolate and Sambayon with Vin Santo. Some of the fruits ( Berries and passionflower) were so acid that it was like drinking pure lemon juice. So, with ups & downs, most of the 12 tastes that we asked were delicious, but a few of the "sorbet" family not. And after some mileage eating also ice cream anywhere, I'm sorry, but perhaps in the Top League, far from being "the Best".

If you want ice cream with perfect flavours, whether it be chocolate, hazelnut, coconut, pistachio, berries from the woods, fiore di late, or any other of about 40 flavours or more, this is the place to get it. We have been visiting San Gimignano for the last 15 years and having an ice cream at Sig. Dondoli's is always one of the highlights of our trip.

Our stop in San Gimignano was only to try Gelateria Dondoli's famed gelatos. This narrow Gelateria has a line of approximately 50 persons stretching outside into the Piazza della Cisterna. WORT THE WAIT! and we attest to their claim of "Gelato World Champion"

I love ice cream so was very disappointed after queuing up for one of my favourite flavours, that being mint, only to end up throwing it in the bin. It was the worst mint ice cream I’ve ever tasted. It was more like the mint that people grow in their gardens, and not at all like the traditional flavour of mint ice cream. To say it was disgusting would be an understatement

We searched out this gelateria because of the amazing reviews but we were very disappointed. We decided to try the unique flavors they offered that were unavailable everywhere else. The Italian garden, basil cheesecake with tomato sauce, strawberry sauce and crumble was inedible and we ended up throwing it away. It tasted like straight up pasta sauce and had no hint of cheesecake or strawberries.

Despite the impressive TikTok reviews and widespread acclaim, our experience at this ice cream shop was quite disappointing. The rude service left us taken aback, and unfortunately, the gelato failed to live up to the hype. While situated in charming Tuscany, the flavors were on par with other establishments in the area, leaving us underwhelmed. It's a reminder that even with a strong online presence, the in-person experience can greatly impact one's perception of a place

During our time in San Gimignano, my husband and I stopped for gelato at Dondoli upon the recommendation of our driver. The line was long, but it moved quickly. We ordered the pistachio and Nutella gelato, savoring every bit of it. The view about 20 feet away from the store is spectacular, overlooking the Tuscan countryside. I loved the gelato!

We were lucky to pick up with virtually no queue, we went in and were immediately served, the waitress's rush surprised us (perhaps it was the person serving the service's bad luck), the rush was so great that it didn't even give us time to choose the flavors correctly. We had to grab whatever flavor we saw in front of us, it felt like a gelato pit stop (I'm talking about a 30-second service, which could be a great virtue with well-prepared staff). The gelato was still great, worth the story, but the service was bad.

There was a long but fast moving line at Gelateria Dondoli when a man beside me started a conversation. He was from Philadelphia and had never had gelato before but was told it was better than ice cream, something he strongly doubted. The efficient serving staff had our orders completed in seconds and we were out the door and into the square to rejoin our respective families. I approached him. "So, what do you think?" "Who needs ice cream," he said. "I've found gelato!." Gelateria Dondoli proclaims itself the World Gelato Champion, and I now know why!
