16 of us had our first dinner on a two week trip in Tuscany and Umbria. This was our first meal in Lucca. I had the beef stuffed ravioli and my husband had the little pasta ears with broccoli and sausage. He said there was...very little sausage and he was not impressed with his dish. We had a salad that we shared which was OK and a nice carafe of Chianti.More

Fast, friendly and authentic. Very local crowd and unpretentious. The food was fine, but salty. There was a large painting of a bare breasted madonna breastfeeding in the middle of the dining room, which was strange and might make some people feel uncomfortable.

My wife’s grilled chicken was a bit bland. Could have used some seasoning before it hit the grill. My stewed pork was tasty but the meat could have used another hour or so in the stew pot. But our first course, penne in a tomato...cream bacon sauce, was the star. One of the three best pasta dishes we’ve had so far in Italy. That penne dish alone is worth a trip to Luca.More

I have known this place for sixteen years set in the ideal location, fast service and friendly. BUT, no more! Perhaps the cook has changed, but the lunch yesterday was terrible, such a shame, because this place has/had everything going for it. The soup was...too salty (one of my favourites in the past - zuppa in broddino, the chips were terrible and the chicken had definitely not had a good life: tough and tasteless. I paid the bill and told the manager that after sixteen years of patronage I could no longer support them.More

We had a tour that was cancelled so we had to find dinner last minute and asked our hotel for a recommendation that wasn't too "fancy". They suggested this and we had had good luck with our hotel so we went. Service was rude and...dismissive and basically she was throwing things at us on the table. She did not even attempt to try and work with us on our lack of Italian and was just irritated we were in the restaurant. At least that is how we felt. She was treating the other non-Italian speakers the same way. They brought over a carafe of "wine" that was literally HOT. Undrinkable...in Italy. Then we ordered and we each ordered a dish that came with "roasted potatoes". Other reviewers said the roasted potatoes were good and had pictures so thought that was safe. She even pointed to it on menu and repeated back to me. Nope we both got french fries. Didn't care or ask for them to change because quite frankly I was scared of her. But...how you know it truly is NOT a good restaurant is when they bring you a package of store bought parmesan to put on your meal. We are in Italy for heavens sake. It honestly was the worst meal we had on our whole two weeks trip to Italy and it was our Anniversary no less. But the food was not the biggest part. We loved Lucca and every single person we met on this two week trip was so kind and welcoming to their country. But not this establishment.More

This Trattoria is exceedingly over rated based on previous reviews. The service was ill-presented and unwelcoming and the food was just not good

This trattoria is ideally located in a shaded narrow street with a nice breeze. Unfortunately this place was a mistake. Few minutes after sitting we all realized that this restaurant was going to be an unpleasant food experience. In within a second the sweaty waiter...brought out our 3 x dishes one of wich was pork still raw... This trattoria da leo is the only restaurant we expérienced very low quality and a serious food hygiène risk. We do notre recommend this place at allMore

Ate a wonderful lunch here- my sister lives in Lucca and when we visited she took us and we we loved it. The lunch scene is mostly local working folks who come for a good, fair priced meal. The food is hearty and traditional, everything...we ordered was delicious. The house red wine was great and everything fairly priced. Highly recommend.More

A real Italian family owned restaurant. Very tight seating area. But very authentic in every way. Outstanding family recipes make for the real thing!

Stopped here for lunch during our visit. We found our meals to be satisfying but nothing exceptional. My husband had the pasta with bolognese sauce & I had the polenta with meat sauce which is supposed to be a traditional dish. It was a bowl...of polenta with the meat sauce drizzled over the top. We also had crostini with toppings. The service was slow and indifferent; the restaurant wasn't even crowded. Interesting eclectic decor.More

We ate outdoors and the atmosphere was quiet, romantic, comfy and just all-around a lovely evening. Food was very good and very hearty. Service was friendly as were the other diners. A very laid-back place.Highly recommend the Tuscan soup, the pork schnizel and the wonderful...potatoes. They were roasted and fried which sounds strange but they were amazing.More

The first night we arrived at trattoria da Leo, we were told they were full - but they had a try and got us in. Service was friendly and helpful all night; The food was good enough for us to return a second time during...our stay in Lucca. The menu is fairly traditional and food is well-prepared and presented. Certainly value for money. It is a popular spot in Lucca so if you are there in high season I would suggest you book.More

Trattoria Da Leo is very Italian! We had dinner there one evening in September and the place was packed with Italian being spoken at almost every table. It's a good sign when the local eat there! The service is brisk but pleasant and fairly efficient,...and it helps if you speak some Italian. We shared an antepasto and had two primi and two deserts -- all excellent. The house wine is good and inexpensive. This was the least expensive place that we tried in Lucca and the food was very good. It's excellent value for money.More
